Nars Mata Hari, Gaiety and Sin blush swatch comparison

NARS Mata Hari is the exact shade that I blush - a reddish pink. It's my favoured blush of the moment - it has no shimmer and as it blends with my natural blush it's quick to apply and blend; if you have different colouring it might be quite easy to overcook, so test out first if you can.

NARS Gaiety needed a lot more product to show up than the other two blushes in this post. It's a clear, very slightly lavendered pink. It is pretty, and good for a natural blush-and-highlight effect on me. Gaiety has no shimmer, but it is a satin texture with more sheen to it than Mata Hari.

NARS Sin is one I need to be careful with; it can look dirty if I don't apply lightly and blend well. In the pan Sin look quite brown but when it is swatched on white paper you can see the plum tones. I feel like this is a bit too dark for my MAC 20 depth skin; it might be better for a 25-30+ depth. Sin has golden shimmer running through it that I could live without; it's not sparkly or as shimmery as Orgasm, but I prefer matte/satin blushes.

As you can probably see, I prefer blushes on the cooler side of the colour spectrum. NARS blushes are excellent, and come in a wide range of shades. You do have to apply with quite a light hand for most of them though.

  1. I don't own any Nars blushes, but I love seeing how everyone has such different taste in colour palettes. I have my eye on Gina, Gilda, Luster! Sin does look gorgeous though, and definitely something for this time of year :). Thanks for sharing! x

    1. Oh, you're on the other side of the colour divide then :) Luster is very beautiful, I have that one although I don't often wear it.

  2. I really like the look of Mata Hari from your swatch. I will have a look at that colour when I'm next at a counter. I bought Sin a while ago and we have since parted. I couldn't get it to work on me and found it generally clashed with everything I tried to pair it with. I was very disappointed as I really had wanted to love it.

    1. Sin is too dark and dingy for me, I think. I can make it work, but I'm making it work if you know what I mean, and that's too much effort for blush.

  3. I'm trying to remember the last time I blushed ... criptus, my life is boring!

    1. Maybe you just aren't a blusher :) I say 'blush' I mean 'colour my face turns after I torture myself with exercise' but that sounds less elegant. Very nice to see you.

  4. I like Gaiety, I guess because I never buy a color like this. I have only Amour from Nars and it is sooo pigmented one has to be careful when applying.

    1. Hi M - yes, Nars blushes are easy to overdo. Good for lasting power and great colours, but you need a light hand. Gaiety is surprisingly light/sheer for a Nars. I don't think I'd recommend it to you though - it'd likely be a bit too cool and pale for you.

  5. I thought I was safe from wanting Gaiety but from those swatches I want it more because I like the softness of the color, great to layer and to use as an eyeshadow which I like to do with NARS blushes

    1. Gaiety is perfect for highlighting the browbone. Suqqu had a Sakura themed collection a few years ago with different shades of sheer pink eyeshadow specifically for the browbone, and that looks beautiful.

  8. I must get Mata Hari!! As for Sin.. I also have a problem with it making me look a bit dirty if I apply it in a hurry. Defo not something you can touch up on the go.. mirror required!!

  9. If you tend to be heavy handed or want to wear a really pigmented deep shade... put in on BEFORE you foundation. You'll also look more natural.
