Still here, although less often

Spot the sad snowman. I love my oddball child.

I've been quiet on the posting front lately, and I'm likely to continue to be sporadic for a while, although I'm not disappearing.

I have a big project on at work which requires working in the evenings quite often, travel to other parts of the country and generally being completely knackered when I'm not at work.

The light hasn't been great recently for taking pictures at weekends.

I've booked a Personal Colour Analysis for March. I am trying to avoid buying colour cosmetics until then, so that I can buy colours in my season/group. I have literally no idea what season I am. I'd guess Deep Winter if I had to judging by my eyes/hair, but some of the colours feel a little dark to me. I don't think I'm Bright. I could end up being an Autumn something and completely mess with my own idea of myself - I much prefer slightly cooler neutrals, and Ma will be unbearable if it turns out that warm browns do suit me.

Things coming up on the blog:

New fragrances and body oil from Aftelier - gorgeous, particularly if you like interesting complex rose scents (Wild Roses).
Laura Mercier Healthy Lips sheer lipstick - like the colour, hate the formula. Makes my lips itch.
Skincare from MyChelle. One very good product, one quite dreadful.

I hope you are all well and keeping warm; I just wanted to explain the interrupted posting schedule.

  1. I think you may find you are a spring or autumn - I am guessing a bit here but was colour analysed some 20yrs ago and it was such fun, everyone wanted to be a "winter" because the colours were so fabulous, we were also fashion/style matched and I lunched out for ages on the fact that I was "euro chic" how cool is that? Sadly never to be repeated. I needless to say am a typical summer ie cool pale blue/pink, sort of winter's more insipid sister. Hope everything goes okay with your full on work, I look forward to your up and coming reviews, on the Laura Mercier lip front, I could never get past the smell which was a sort of burnt plastic, put me off for life. Sorry for the essay.

    1. Hi Jan - Spring has never occurred to me as a possibility - I don't feel Spring-y :D That'd be interesting. I don't think of myself as warm-toned, and those are both the warm end of the spectrum. We'll see!

Yes, the LM smells really weird and plasticky to me too - underneath a weirdly saccharine caramel scent. Should've sniffed before buying!

  2. I love MyChelle skincare line, so I am really curious which product you do not like. I personally love everything from their normal/combo line, especially Vitamin C serum which really works. Greetings! Sandra

    1. Hi Sandra - I love the Pumpkin moisturiser (unfragranced) but the Pumpkin cleanser has too many essential oils for me - it's like scrubbing my face with a Fisherman's Friend!

  4. Hi Grace!!

I completely understand! I am having a very busy and quite 'stressful' time at work!!

As usual, I will be looking forward to your nice posts!!

Am intending to try out Aftelier, too, by ordering some samples (I am especially curious of Perfum Prive, but Wild Roses sounds nice, too, as I love rose scents!

And am really curious about the Color Analysis!!

    xo

  5. Courage for your busy schedule!
I miss your posts and can't wait to see what season you are assigned to.
(I think we have similar, though not equal, coloring, and have always thought you would look amazing with golden, silevry sandy hues (not too brassy though) - and don't really approve the taupes you like so much ;))
I'll enjoy vicariously your color-matching esperience!!!

  6. I'm looking forward to your upcoming posts (especially for Wild Roses--I read a review of it a few days ago and have been craving the scent since). And to hearing about your colour analysis results in the spring! Should be so interesting. In the meantime, best of luck with work. I have always yearned for that notion of "work-life balance"-- but at this point I'm pretty sure it's just a myth. ;)

    1. Hi Sam - there just aren't enough hours in a day!

Wild Roses is beautiful - very much a soliflore, but very unusual in that it is all the facets of rose.

  7. For some reason, I think you're a Winter like I am. I was color printed years ago when there were only four seasons. You can wear some warm toned reds so I bet you're a DW. It will be interesting to hear what you find out.

  8. Good luck with your busy schedule, hope you don't get too stressed out - but you can use it as a good excuse for some nice calming bath time.
I have no idea what you'd be colourfamily-wise although I'm rooting for something Wintery as well but in any case it'll be interesting to read about your experience. I've been thinking of doing the colour analysis as well, need to convince myself that it would actually save me money with preventing all the future misses colour-wise. I have noticed lately though that I've been getting some nice compliments from other people mainly when I wear something burgundy coloured so that's a start, I guess.
Oh, and btw I've just ordered some Krill oil from Content Beauty after reading about it on your blog as well and hope it will be useful. I'm already taking the Cod Liver oil supplements and I wonder if there will be any difference with adding the Krill. And this post just reminded me of some Aftelier samples I wanted to order - you really are bad for my wallet. x

    1. Hi Klara - I am still taking Krill Oil every day and completely swear by it. I think it has improved my skin and my general energy levels/flexibility.

I don't tend to get too stressed out, thankfully (touch wood)! I can switch off when the work computer finally goes off.

I love burgundy too. I like all the rosy/berry colours - it's why I'm hoping for a predominantly cool season!

  9. I am so sleep-deprived at the moment, I logged on to write basically the same first 3 sentences in your post and became totally confused when I read this on my blogroll.... it took me 10 minutes to work out I hadn't actually sleep-posted involving a bit of "....but I live in London, like makeup and am a girl...wait, whose blog is this."

Aaaanyway I have been reading up / chatting to wise folks about Colour Analysis since your last post and the white-based lipstick revelation <3 Very excited to hear about your Analysis and contemplating one meself.

    1. It's like Fight Club but with makeup. It's okay... I know you're Brad Pitt to my Ed Norton ;)

I would be really interested to see what happens if you had an analysis - as far as I can see you really are completely neutral, you don't distort colours at all.

  10. The teary snowman made me chuckle. All three of mine are craft refusers, however I'm still crossing my fingers for at least one handmade card this year. Sorry to hear that work is still hardcore, are you still managing karate on top of it all?

I'm very much looking forward to your review of Wild Roses and I will be very interested to hear how your Colour Analysis goes. Fingers crossed for no warm browns! :D

  11. looking forward to hearing about your colour analysis? Also MyChelle as it is a brand I have not heard off. Any ideas on young mens skincare? looking for a brand for sensitive skin but to help treat a cluster of spots?Any suggestions will be greatly received. Hope work will settle dow a bit for you. :)

    1. Hi - La Roche Posay Effaclar A I spot treatment is my 'swear by it' for taking down a breakout. If your skin is sensitive but congested all over, I'd suggest Mu London - the fragrance free face wash and, if you use one, the Hemp moisturiser. The moisturiser feels a bit weird and solid/balm-like, but it's brilliant. Just melt between fingertips and pat onto the skin very sparingly. Very good for irritated skin, like dry/eczema patches - Mr L and Miss L both use it on patches that tend towards eczema.

      Thank you :)
