Some new RMS Beauty purchases

Rose-Marie Swift (the make up artist behind RMS Beauty) was recently in London and Content Beauty held an event with her. I wouldn't have missed it for the world, and ended up with a couple of new items on my wishlist that promptly ended up in an online basket at www.beingcontent.com.

I bought:

Un Cover Up Concealer in 22 (I used to be 11, since I stopped using sunscreen every day I am not quite so pale, so 22 is a better match, and the one the lady (Rose-Marie) herself used on me).  £28.

Lip2Cheek in Muse - translucent seashell beige, with a hint of pink and the subtlest shimmer. £28.

Lip & Skin Balm in Simply Cocoa. This is an effective, non-sticky, not too shiny lip balm. You can also use it on dry patches anywhere or as an eye cream. I wish I had bought this years ago. It's an excellent base for lipstick. £17.

For a rough idea of the colour difference between Un-Cover Up 11 and 22, here's an old picture of mine of 11. I used this up ages ago, so I can't do a side by side comparison unfortunately. I'd say 11 covers a MAC 15-20 depth (Drivol About Frivol, who is lighter than a MAC 15 (MAC 10?) can just about wear 11, although she'd prefer it a little paler and less yellow).  22 is more of a MAC 25-30 depth.
Swatch of Muse Lip2Cheek (left) and Un Cover Up 22 (right).
Blended out - Muse becomes almost imperceptible, although it is darker and a shade pinker than Un Cover 22, and also has a really subtle sheen/shimmer to it. It's not at all obvious; even on close inspection it looks pretty much like bare skin on me, but somehow, to my eye, better. If you already have plump dewy cheeks this isn't likely to do very much for you at all, and I think you'd be better off using one of the darker Un Cover Ups or Seduce cream eyeshadow for a stronger contour. I love it though - I'm a big fan of the un-made up look, and it just does something nice to my face when I use it on my cheekbones.  On the lips it knocks back natural colour and gives a Bardot-esque look without being heavy or concealer-ish. It's not a look I like on myself personally (I prefer more colour on my lips) but if you're looking for a natural, non-shiny but not dry nude lip Muse is lovely.
Muse applied to lips.
Here's a comparison of the Living Luminizer and Muse. Luminizer is more glow-y/sheeny-y and a pale cool pearl.
Blended out. Lots of RMS Beauty products make excellent highlight/luminizers - Solar cream eyeshadow is great for a more obvious shimmering gold, and they all blend well together too.
Rose-Marie Swift herself was an utter joy. She is frank and fearless, unafraid to express opinions and be counted for what she believes in. This translates into her products; she doesn't accept lesser grade anything and has made some really excellent products that are simple and a pleasure to use.

  1. That concealer looks so nice, it's the next one I want to try. I love the way you incorporate natural products into your blog.

    1. Hi Mary - thanks :) It's a great product. Natural/clean cosmetics have come on so much in recent years - I prefer the performance of the natural brands I love over the mainstream brands now.

  2. I'm sure the event was great!!

I have been tempted for a while about Muse, but finally never bought it....how are you planning to use it? ( blush/ contour /...?)
Do you think it would be suitable for a slightly darker skintone? ( i'm a mix between Rms 22 and 33)

The balm is great, i have repurchased it many times and it is a staple in my beauty routine...
i have many rms products and every single one is great!

Next i would like to try the oil!

    1. Hi Clara - it's sort of a subtle highlight/blush/contour all in one for me. For you, I think it would be a highlight - it barely shows on my skin as a blush/contour. I'd think of it as a softer alternative to the Luminizer or Solar for a darker skintone.

  5. Hi,reading your review I notice that you say you do not wear a spf every day now? I remember reading one of your blogs a good while ago & you were really into SPF. I have been told by beuticians/facialist to wear an spf every day and I have tried my very best to do this, (prob for a year now)most times SPF50(epionce) I am & always have been very pale & I am wondering what your thoughts are now on SPF? Should I bother, am I doing more harm than good? I use oskia skincare at the moment. Loved the review not heard of RMS before.

    1. Hi

I began to worry about my vitamin D levels as a result of always wearing an SPF, so back in May I stopped using one everyday. I supplement with a beta-carotene to help protect against sun damage and I do wear a sunscreen if I know I'm going to be in strong sun for a prolonged period. I'll do an update post on the issue soon.

  6. I'm so envious--you got to meet Rose-Marie Swift! I've seen her interviewed on a couple of youtube videos and thought she was marvelous. How cool that you got to meet her in person. As for your newest purchases, I love. Like you, I originally used 11. However, it was slightly too light for me. Then I got 22--but it was slightly too dark. Now I mix them together. Perfection. I love Muse as a subtle highlighter. Love it! Don't care for it on my lips (like you, I prefer a somewhat darker tone), but on cheekbones, ridge of the nose, cupid's bow, below eyebrow, even on the cheeks as a (very) subtle blush, I adore it. I got Muse and the Lip & Skin Balm (I think mine is Vanilla) this summer and really love them both. Her products are so good. Thanks for sharing your latest finds!

    1. Hi Sam - I use Muse in exactly the same way - it's a lovely soft highlight/skin perfecter. I'm v impressed with the balm.

It was brilliant to meet Rose-Marie. Her integrity is clear to see, but she's also extremely funny and engaging.

    2. I have listened/watched most of her interviews and I find her intriguing and engaging too. Her enthusiasm shows how much she has put her heart and soul into all of the products, which is probably why RMS is not that much of a big range in comparison to others. I also love despite her being a professional make up artist, she is still willing to give out thorough recommendations of the How-s and What-s (very fast reply too!). By reading your description of her, this makes me love RMS even more!!

I have been eye-ing on Muse as well, especially its been on sale for $18 on her website. I think the colour would be too mute to be worn on my lips too, but it does seem to make a lovely highlight.

By any chance, did you try the new RMS Beauty oil?

    3. Hi Asti - they gave everyone who went to the talk/demo little trial vials of the Beauty oil. It smells edible from the vanilla extract, and feels very nourishing on the skin. Not enough to judge the effects over time, but my skin seemed to like it a lot. I think the ingredients R-M has used in it very much.

  7. Hi!

Does Muse make your lips lighter? I'm looking for something that will make my lips look lighter than my natural lip color because I have big lips and don't want it to stand even more out. It's hard to find an organic or natural brand that makes light colors (usually they make shades of red). The only light colors that I've only found are cool pale pinks, which makes me look like Barbie... T_T How is muse on the eyes also? Thanks for the swatches!

    1. Hi Chelle - yes, Muse makes the lips look considerably lighter, and it isn't a Barbie colour at all. It's that kind of Angelina Jolie warm beige shade. Another line you might look at is Ilia Beauty - it's also a natural brand with lots of good nude shades - I have shown Nobody's Baby, a peachy nude, on this blog, if you do a search on Ilia Beauty it should come up.

Muse is lovely on the eyes too - gives a natural sheen, like perfected baby eyelids.

    2. Thanks for that quick reply! I shall look into the other brand. :)
