After using this for a few weeks, I've come to the conclusion that although the Tom Ford quad is lovely (and I have no problem with the pigmentation of the shadows) I'm more of a single eyeshadow type of person. In this case, the single eyeshadow in question is Armani's Eyes To Kill in #4 (Pulp Fiction).

Tom Ford Silvered Topaz Eye
Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill #4 Pulp FictionNot exactly the same, but a pretty similar look achieved with a single shadow. If I had more time in the morning, I'd use the quad more. Having paid £60+ for it, I don't want to just use one of the colours in it. I know Tom Ford favours quite a 'done' and polished look, but it doesn't fit in with my everyday lifestyle.

Thank you so much for revisiting this quad. It's extremely useful for someone like me who has been waiting for Christmas to make a TF purchase. I think I'm like you in terms of time and I already have and enjoy Pulp Fiction. I think maybe I would get more benefit from the lovely pencil you posted about than this particular quad. Many thanks Grace x
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful palette but yikes it's pricey...I do agree it takes time to get a polished look using all four eyeshadows in the palette....but how about using two at a time? It can look more made up but saves time.
ReplyDeleteSo far, I've got 1 Tom Ford Quad (Russet) and 6 Suqqu Quads. I think that the Suqqu quads are a lot more wearable!
ReplyDeleteThis all looks so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post Grace. I actually like the Armani look better...Have you tried Sue Devitt's eye intensifier in Surat? I think you'd like it. It's a very 'you' taupe.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend and hugs to S, hope he feels better soon!
Nina
To be honest, I like Pulp Fiction on you a bit more than the TF. It's a bit more brightening!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your post-honeymoon thoughts with us ;)
ReplyDeleteOddly I seem to find quads the quickest/most brainless of eyeshadows to throw on (for me singles usually need a separate liner which means trying to find things pre-coffee), duos and trios are just inexplicably trickier.
Good to know, thanks. I have no Tom Ford eye palettes, but like you, I prefer singles because I can buy exactly what I want and not get stuck with any dud (or even semi meh) colors.
ReplyDeleteI love the Armani and I agree it looks better. I too prefer singles, even with the quads I adore I usually need to tweak with another base or liner.
ReplyDeleteKate - that's a perfect way to put it - after the honeymoon period. It's beautiful, but it just doesn't fit in with my lifestyle. I suspect I could say the same for Mr Ford himself ;)
ReplyDeleteMB - I'd go for an eyeliner or a blush first.
Hi Beauty Box - well the two taupes are almost identical when applied, so I could easily get away without one of those. I would've preferred the colours as single eyeshadows.
Hey Jamilla - yes, the Suqqu seem to layer better? I don't go for those that often on a busy morning though either to be fair.
Hello Musing on Beauty - thank you!
Hi Nina - I haven't tried that one, but it is on my list together with her Lonely Splendour eyeshadow. I must make a trip to the counter in Fenwicks. Thanks!
Hi Odyssey *whispers* me too! ;)
Hello Zuzu's Petals - that's exactly why I prefer singles too.
Hi Sabrina - Yes, I still feel like I need a liner, even with the quad. I just like the extra definition, even though I smudge liners out.
I'm glad I haven't bought any of the TF since it would be site unseen. Thanks to blogs the lemming is dying out slowly. I prefer the Armani eye on you and I already own that!
ReplyDeleteI recently purchased two TF eyeshadow quads -- Burnished Amber, which the SA applied on me (absolutely GORGEOUS), and Silver Topaz, which I bought without trying on and now LOVE. I have been a loyal, exclusive Chanel devotee for nearly 30 years, including skincare (Sublimage only, since its launch about 5 years ago; it is fantastic) -- but these TF products, along with two TF lipsticks -- Scarlet Rouge, which is simply beautiful with Silver Topaz quad, and Cherry Lush, which is amazing with Burnished Amber quad on my extremely fair, olive skin (Italian), hazel/brown eyes with dark eyebrows and brunette hair with red/gold highlights. I think that the TF colors, textures, pigmentation, wearablility and formulation are amazing, unique and, quite frankly, FABULOUS; their differing qualities within each palette -- shimmer, sparkle, matte, satin -- actually give them an "edge" over Chanel and everybody else, in my opinion, which until their (TF's) launch, nothing else could compete with Chanel. Sometimes you actually get what you pay for; this is one of those instances, both with the TF eyeshadow quads and the TF lipsticks -- they are utterly glamorous, sophisticated, elegant. I'm hooked.
DeleteHello Anon - there's nothing better than buying something and absolutely loving it :) Cherry Lush is still one of my favourite red lipsticks, it's a fabulous colour. I do think the TF products are great quality, and the amount of product you get in the compact is pretty generous too.
