Tom Ford Foundation swatches

I swatched all the Tom Ford foundation shades in the cream stick formulation today. I'm MAC NC20, Bobbi Brown Warm Ivory for reference.

01 Alabaster - palest, pink toned. Too light and too pink for me.
02 Pale Dune - fair, yellow toned. I could wear this one.
03 Fawn - neutral fair. I could also wear this shade.
04 Bisque - pink toned, fair to medium.
05 Natural - yellow toned, fair to medium depth (slightly lighter than Bisque).
07 Tawny - medium beige (second picture is most accurate in terms of colour, first picture has quite a lot of sun reflecting off this particular shade because of angle).
08 Caramel - warm, orange toned.
09 Toffee - neutral undertones.
10 Praline - more yellow undertones than toffee, a touch deeper.
11 Warm Almond - deepest shade.

There is no shade 6 in the stick foundations, and I didn't see one in the liquid formulation either. The pictures are clickable to enlarge.

  1. Thanks for doing this. I doubt it will be available in my area so having this as a resource is great. I'd probably pick Alabaster but it looks awfully light.

  2. Hi Nazia and Jamilla - you're welcome :)

Hi Marcia - Alabaster is really pale. It would match Charlotte from Lipglossiping well. It'd be the right tone for you, but perhaps a little light - it's lighter than Armani LSF 2, for example. The shades are reasonably forgiving though, and do adjust to your skintone a bit. I could wear Pale Dune or Fawn.

  4. Thank you so much for these! I've been curious about this foundation but it looks like I'd be between alabaster and pale dune since I'm a tad lighter than you are. I think I'm going to continue to save for Suqqu...something I've been dying to try...that is if I can find a match over the phone, lol.

  5. Hello Dawn - are you pink, neutral or yellow toned? From the sound of it, you'd be 101 in Suqqu in the cream formulation - I'm 102.

I intend to book in for a proper Tom Ford makeover, so I will report back on whether I'm matched to the Pale Dune or Fawn.

  6. Hi Grace. I think neutral would be best for me. I can go slightly yellow-toned if need be, as long as it's not too yellow, so I think to be on the safe side I'd choose neutral. I'm trying to decide between the cream foundation and the frame fix liquid foundation. Do you happen to know if the colors in the two formulas are the same? I was thinking 001 or 101.

I look forward to reading, and hopefully seeing pictures, from your Tom Ford makeover. His products look stunning.

  7. Thank you for the swatches!
How would you compare TF's foundations to Suqqu's? Would you prefer one over the other?

  8. Thanks, this is helpful as I would like to pre-order from Neiman Marcus. I think Natural might be for me. I am Bobbi Brown Beige and MAC NC25, hope I am right.

  9. Hi Dawn - the ones starting 1- are the neutral shades. The 0- ones are more yellow. I'd go with 101. The colours in the cream and liquid run the same - the compact foundation comes out a bit darker though.

  10. Hi Anon - the Tom Ford liquid is a lighter texture than the Suqqu liquid, although I'd reckon the Suqqu would probably be more long lasting as it has the built in primer. You get more slip and blend time with the TF - with the Suqqu you need to work fast! I think the Suqqu liquid is more suitable for oilier skin - the TF is best for normal to dry.

The TF stick foundation also works as a concealer, and again, has a bit more slip than the Suqqu frame fix cream formulation. With the Suqqu you don't need primer and you can get away without powder too.

Finally, the TF has a better selection of colours for deeper skintones than the Suqqu foundations.

  11. Hello Rola - that would have been my guess for a NC25.

  12. Pale Dune looks way too yellow but if Alabaster is too light for you, it'll probably be too light for me,too.

I would LOVE if you could swatch the new lipstick/lip gloss line one day :)x

  14. Thanks so much for the swatches. Would you say Natural is a good match for NC30? Or should I go with Tawny?

  15. Hi Phyllis - I'd go Natural. I think Tawny would be slightly too warm and too dark.

  16. I wear mac nw20 what colour would u said in for me in tf please :)

  17. Hi Anonymous. Alabaster would be too pale - it's more a 15 depth. I'd go for either Pale Dune or Fawn. Pale Dune is a bit more yellow, Fawn slightly deeper, but more neutral. The colours are quite forgiving; I could wear either of those shades.

There isn't a fair (but not extremely light) pink based shade in the range though, if you need a definite pink tone.

    1. Hello. I think Natural or Bisque would be about right - Fawn would match a BB Warm Ivory/Sand (I'm Warm Ivory).

  19. thank you, ordered the stick in bisque and also the Tom ford primer.
have worn it for a week now but unfortunately it breaks me out :-(

  20. Hi - having fallen out of love with the stick foundation almost immediately (I think I was sold a shade too light, to be honest - makes me look very mask-like), I bought the liquid foundation yesterday. Make-up artist applied Bisque and it's a great shade for me. But the total revelation is the primer - may well be my desert island product now. Gives my skin a glowy, dewy look. Sensational.

  21. I want to try this foundation in the stick. I'm a nw 35 in Mac and have a golden undertone. Would tawny or caramel worked for me.

    1. Hi Deana - I'd guess probably Caramel, although there is some wiggle room in this foundation. Have a look at this blog -

      http://shahadakarim.blogspot.co.uk/2011/11/product-review-tom-ford-beauty.html

Caramel was a little too light for this blogger, who's NC43-44.

    2. That is just a best guess though. There's a review on Makeupalley that says Tawny is a good match for a NC40-42 - but that's quite a lot lighter than the blogger seems to think matches her.

I would recommend having a look at the blog I've given as a reference and seeing how your skin compares. She has a swatch of Caramel on that blog post.
