Chantecaille Calla Lily Lip Chic

I find the Lip Chic formula from Chantecaille very comfortable and flattering, so I was keen to have a look at the two new colours released with the Autumn 2011 collection, Calla Lily and Violetta.

Calla Lily is a deep browned rose, with reddish undertones. It's not quite in the red spectrum in my opinion, but it's darker and noticeably warmer than most of the other deep shades in this formula (apart from Ceylon, which is definitely brown). Violetta is a blue-based, raspberry pink. I bought Calla Lily, which gives me a slightly sepia-toned rosy lip when worn. The Lip Chic formula is one of the easiest and most comfortable to wear on my naturally very dry lips.

Picture applied (please bear in mind my lips are a pale mauve naturally, and Lip Chics are quite sheer. On a person who does not have corpse lips, this colour may appear darker and warmer).
Edit: I had mixed up my right and left. Thanks to Klara for spotting this. Now corrected. Swatched, Bourbon Rose Lip Chic on the left for comparison, Calla Lily on the right. Calla Lily is deeper and warmer, with brown tones that Bourbon Rose does not have.
In context of the rest of my face. This isn't a great photo (and you should have seen it before I cropped it) but it shows the colour and tone of the lipstick against my skin well. The dark and slightly sepia rose gives a nod to an autumnal gothic lip look, without being as lip-diminishing as a dark, opaque colour can be.

  1. I've been looking for lip swatches of this since I found out about the collection, it looks lovely!
Perhaps it's finally time to invest in a lip chic, I've heard nothing but good things...

  4. Very pretty!! I love this rosy deep color. Perfect for this season. I wander if its too glossy to use as a blush? Its a lovely shade but i think only very creamy lippies work for that!

  5. Hi Glossedintranslation (I LOVE your user ID!) - they are expensive, but extremely good. Still the best sheer, glossy lipsticks in my opinion.

Hi Jamilla - thank you, me too, especially for autumn.

Hello Nina - I've worn it every day, I think this one is going to get a lot of wear this winter.

Hi Tali - too sheer and glossy for a blush, I think. Perfect colour for a blush though!

  6. Really pretty. This was sold out a few weeks back when I tried to get it in London but I chose Violetta instead and it is one of my favourite lip colours of all time. A really beautiful cool raspberry. I think I'd have to try this in person as it looks a bit too warm for me but it seemed the more popular choice out of the two new shades.

  7. I loved how this looked on you and the colour as it faded looked great too. I am very tempted by this one. The Lip Chics are such a comfortable wear.
