Addiction by Kose - sparkly face

Clockwise from right: Stardust eyeshadow, Dream Pillow lipgloss, Crush blush, Secret Night eyeliner.

One of the Bobbi Brown rules from a decade ago was that if you're going to use shimmer, you should only use it on one feature at a time (and never on the cheeks *cough* shimmerbrick *cough*). I pulled out some Kose Addiction items yesterday, and every single one of them was sparkly. The colours are all quite neutral though, so I don't think I looked too much like a christmas bauble.

Secret Night on its own.
Secret Night with Stardust pressed over the top of it.
Applied - it's hard to capture in a photograph, but you can see hints of the sparkles. It's quite subtle unless you really pack Stardust on.
Dream Pillow applied - which also isn't as sparkly as it appears in the tube, although if you enlarge the photo you can see the sparkles.
I bought my Addiction from www.mihokoshop.com, or via a friend who had a friend visiting Japan (it's currently not available in the US or Europe). The underlying textures of Shiseido products are quite similar in my experience, if you don't want to shop online.

What beauty rules do you like to break?

  1. I haven't tried Addiction before! Although I see them featured in eveyr single issue of Japanese magazine I couldn't get my hands on them (i'm in Hong Kong)

They look pretty individually and on you! Full face pic may be more helpful to see how shimmery you look ;) we like FOTDssss Hehe

  3. This is an elegant, wearable look as always, Grace!

I have long thought that Japanese-brand shimmer and most Western-brand shimmer are entirely different beasts. (She maintains, as she waltzes into her office job on a Tuesday morning sporting three shades of glittery green eyeshadow...)

  5. Thank you for sharing these products (you've reminded me of my Addiction crush). I think you can totally pull of a full face of sparkly finishes as you're not packing it on and it remain subtle. I love the glimpse of twinkle.

I've been wracking my brains trying to think of any beauty rules that I break. I wear eye colours that are the same as my eye colour (apparently this is a no-no) and I've even been known to do a bit of matchy matchy with my outfit and my makeup. I have yet to be caught by the cosmetics police ;)

  6. I love ADDICTION and I am so happy that you like some of their stuff too. I do wish that I could get hold of Pink Python as it is smudgy grey/black and not like a snake at all.

I think you did a great job with your makeup and this is a tip that I will try on myself now. You have enabled rule breaking!

  7. You have a very nice neutral make up!
But I always worry about my skin in autumn, that's why I bought Organic Surge (skin care line). now there is a competition for this bundle. You may see here http://blog.broodon.com/competitions
I am sure you will like it!

  8. Hi Jacq - I will try to get a full face wearing these - I know it's helpful to see a full FOTD. It was one of those days when the camera/lighting wasn't playing ball for the full face though!

Hello Kate - I agree. The Japanese brands do shimmer products beautifully - I like the way they seem to be able to suspend shimmer in a translucent base, rather than a frosty shimmer.

Hi MB - I'll be your alibi if you are mine ;)

Hi OC - rule breakers unite! Pink Python does look good (although it is not pink).

Thanks to all for the comments. x

  9. I think both of those are lovely on you, and you definitely don't look like a Christmas bauble! I'm not huge on sparkle, but those pairings are subtle enough that they really highlight your features.

My main beauty rule-breaker is that I tend to do strong eyes and lips on the same face. I love my red lipstick and I also love smokey eyes and/or a bit of color, so I often do both. Apparently my face is designed for packing on the makeup, though, as it never looks odd (and yes, I've checked with my brutally honest friends to be sure I'm not just delusional). Luckily, I read in Allure recently that the trend is coming back, so I won't be an outcast for long. :)

  10. I know I am "warm toned" but I like wearing cool-toned lip gloss and blush sometimes....but I try to balance that with warm eyeshadow...is that really breaking a rule? ;-)

  11. Haven't tried this brand before: the Secret Night eyeliner looks good and much softer than a liquid. You don't say whether it lasts as long though?

  12. Hello Diane - it doesn't stay as sharp as a liquid liner, although it lasts pretty much all day for me, particularly if I go over it with a powder eyeshadow.

Hello Shannon and Astrorainfall - I like both of your rule-breaking ways ;) I find a slightly cooler toned blush and lipstick can look a lot fresher on me than a warm toned one, and I have olive skintones.

  13. I've never heard of this brand but I do love the glitter.
    I'll check it out. Thanks.
