Tom Ford Espresso Eye Defining Pencil is a deep cool brown, with no shimmer. This is a basic, dark brown eye pencil. The texture is quite creamy, giving excellent colour saturation, but it is prone to smudging; it's best for a smoky eye look rather than a clean, sharp line. It comes with a pencil sharpener.
Blended out. It makes a good base for powder eyeshadow worn this way too, and this is how I prefer to wear eyeliner; I apply it next to my lashline before applying eyeshadow over the top, which softens the look of the liner.
I do like it and I'm glad I bought it, but this is £8 more than The Giorgio Armani Smooth Silk Eye Pencil I reviewed here Giorgio Armani Smooth Silk Eye Pencil 12 (the Armani is £17 for 1.05g to the Tom Ford price of £25 of 1.36g - £16 per g v £18 per g respectively). If pressed, I would say the Tom Ford is more pigmented and give more saturated colour than the Armani. There is also a lighter brown with shimmer in the line; Metallic Mink. This is a more interesting shade and I shall probably purchase that at some point (or put it on my Christmas list). I think Espresso is a more useful colour for everyday wear though.

Sounds like I need a TF eye pencil to go with my palette!
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing! I wonder if you could compare this beauty and RBR Lola? I'm such an eye liner whore these days! I really should have known better than to read this! You always create terrible lemmings! xx
ReplyDeleteI bought the Metallic Mink and I love it. What I really liked about TF's liners is that they lasted all day, even on lower lashline/inner rim and the shimmer also lasted. On me shimmer pencil liners turn more matte towards end of day and this was just as good as in the morning. I was very impressed, now I think I must also get Espresso...
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the Metallic Mink. It looks and sounds brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThis blends out nicely. This liner alone could make a really easy one-step eye look.
ReplyDeleteHi Ana Marta - oh, now you're really making me want the Metallic Mink. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteHi OC - doesn't it just?
Hello Jamilla - well, I would say so ;)
Hi MM - I'll do a comparison post with swatches of this, the RBR and the Giorgio Armani. Thanks :)
Hello TheKindlyOne - it does blend out very well - as well as being good for a simple smoky eye it's a good base for eyeshadow too. Thanks for visiting my blog :)
I wonder when we'll get more of the Tom Ford line in the US. I bought lipsticks and I love them even if I hate the price.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect brown! I love the way it looks when blended too.
ReplyDeleteHi. I also own few TF eye pencils and can't say they r the best. Wouldn't recommend. Blends well but not very long lasting and u have to sharper them after every use. There are much better ones like Chantecaille gel pencil, dolce and gabbana kohl and even Armani. I think TF has some great products like lipsticks and blushes for example but not eye pencil for sure
ReplyDeleteHi Saidah - it sounds like we like opposite pencils - I find the D&G ones a bit hard, and I like the TF for its smudginess. :) It does depend what you're looking for in a pencil. I think the Armani ones are probably the best compromise between wear and smudgeability.
