Rouge Bunny Rouge Abyssinian Catbird eyeshadow
Abyssinian Catbird is one of the most popular powder eyeshadows in the Rouge Bunny Rouge line. It's a richly pigmented, metallic olive bronze shade.
Unfortunately the 'olive' in it is, I suspect, why I don't like it on me. The tone of this picks up the greenish undertones of my skin and makes me look a bit sunken eyed. It's also a very similar colour and tone to the iris of my eye, and I personally prefer the look of a contrasting eyeshadow - I find a grey or mauve taupe or a silvery green more flattering to my eye. I've tried Abyssinian Catbird on quite a few occasions, and have always had other people remark that I'm looking peaky or looked in the mirror and thought that myself at some stage during the day.
It works beautifully on other people and there are many very (well-deserved) positive reviews for it, particularly from those with pinker skintones. It looks lovely on the blue-eyed Modesty Brown - Rouge Bunny Rouge Abyssinian Catbird and on the also blue-eyed Replica at Visionary Beauty - Rouge Bunny Rouge Abyssinian Catbird (scroll down to the bottom of the post). If you do have olive undertones, I'd recommend caution and trying a similar colour in a less expensive range first.

This shade looks a bit strange - there something disturbing about it... I don't know, it's just strange :)
ReplyDeleteHello Eli - I'm afraid I think I'm to blame for this - on other coloring it is a lovely shade - on my pale olive, it turns zombie-hued! On the blue-eyed, cool-skinned ladies I've linked to it looks absolutely lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love this color, it's one of the most beautiful shades in my collection if not the most beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBlog Sale it? *looks optimistic*
ReplyDeleteI have this and absolutely love it. I have green eyes and find this immensely flattering. For what it's worth I actually think it looks great on you x
ReplyDeleteIt's really pretty! You could warm this up with a yellow cream highlighter too.
ReplyDeleteI think I want it just because of the name.
ReplyDeleteI am seriously in love with my Bejeweled Skylark at the moment but want this one, too.
ReplyDeleteI love this color so much. It started my obsession with khaki. But I find it works better for me in the crease and not on the lid. Khaki on my lid can make me look tired too.
ReplyDeleteI actually think it looks lovely on you! Love the look.
ReplyDeleteI'd just like an eyelid where an eyeshadow would show, any shadow, I'm not fussy! Thanks for this. Jan x
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry this didn't work out for you. It is one of my faves but as you said, totally different colouring. The pics you've posted look great though.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks rather pretty on you, I do understand what you mean though, I struggle to wear similar colours yet look with envy and my blue eyed friends who can pull off the colour with ease!
ReplyDeleteWell you know it's one of my all time favorite colors(thanks to you)! Mine has a sizable dip in it now- I actually wore it today. I don't think it looks awful on you - it's just not your normal sludge xx
ReplyDeleteOh I like that one and see nothing wrong with it on you, but I understand not feeling quite right about it no matter how pretty it is.
