Unfortunately, my content appears to be being stolen through my RSS feed and published on a spam blog (splog). I have therefore set my RSS feed to short instead of full, to prevent this happening in the future.
I regret that this is necessary, and apologise to those of you who prefer to read blog posts through Google Reader or similar. I hope you understand why I have made the decision to do this. I work hard on the content and pictures for this blog, and I'll be damned if I make it easy for someone else to make money from my work.

This has been a week for blog content theft! Hope yours gets resolved soon!
ReplyDeleteInfuriating! I am sure none of your faithful readers will blame you. In fact, many will probably follow suit. How did you find out your intellectual property was being stolen?
ReplyDeleteHello Zuzu's Petals - I searched for a review on something, and my review came up on this splogger site! Very odd to see your own face somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteHello Jamilla - thank you. I've emailed the hosting site, but they want me to fill out a form with all my personal details on before they'll take down the content. I'm very wary of this - what if they forward this to the offending site owners?
How infuriating! I can totally understand your reasons for going for a short feed. Hopefully it will cut them off quickly.
ReplyDeleteGood for you- I've noticed this a lot recently. Please can you help us to follow suit by explaining how to run a short feed? Sorry, technology isn't my strong point!
ReplyDeleteAsking you for that is like adding insult to injury. You're right to be wary. Can you also complain to Blogger? I'd be totally creeped out if I saw my face on someone else's blog.
ReplyDeleteOops, hit submit too soon. I meant to say I am really sorry this is happening to you. It feels like a persona violation, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteAnd another thing (lol), if you file a complaint with Blogger, they should be able to remove the content thief from their search algorithm. If that splogger is on Google, they should be removed and banned.
ReplyDeleteHello Skin Deep Beauty Blogger - in Blogger, you go to Settings, Site Feed, and then set Blog Posts Feed to Short. I've always had it set to full so people don't have to come to my blog to read the whole post, but it does make you vulnerable to content theft.
ReplyDeleteHi MB - well, funnily, they have (the excerpt of) my post explaining why I've gone to short feed up on their site now. Hopefully it will cut them off at the knees. I'm considering naming and shaming the hosting company too.
Hi ZP - thank you. I don't think Blogger can help, as they aren't a Blogger blog. The hosting company has to take them down. I replied to the hosting company's email, (not giving them all my personal details) - I shall see what they say.
Grace that is so terrible! I have seen this so much lately when I search and I don't understand how people get away with it!! I do like the ease of reading everything in Googlereader, but I completely understand why you have to do the short feed, and I hope this solves your problem!!
ReplyDeleteHow terrible! I hope you can resolve this without too many problems. Some people have no shame.
