Bobbi Brown reformulated Creamy Concealer Kit

CERN can just stop and dismantle the Large Hadron Collider now, because Bobbi Brown has discovered the Secret of the Universe and it is concealer.

I'm not sure that I'd go quite that far myself, but a good under eye concealer does make a difference if you're short on sleep or just naturally prone to dark circles (I am both. Miss London still considers 6am to be a lie-in).

I like the old formula Bobbi Brown Concealer Kit, which came with the creamy concealer and a mini pot of loose powder.

As well as replacing the loose powder with a pressed powder, the concealer itself has been reformulated to be a bit less emollient.

While Blogger was down I made a video using the new kit, and comparing it to the old kit.

I actually prefer the creamier texture of the old creamy concealer personally, but I do think the reformulated version will be easier for more people to use.

Disclosure: reformulated kit was provided as part of a blogger launch event for this product. I bought the old one myself.

  1. I was actually stunned by the coverage and how well it concealed in the video. I wouldn't say you have prominent circles but it really knocks darkness out. I can see what you mean about the emollient difference too. I suspect this will feel less comfortable but sink in to my creases less.

Thanks for the lovely video, great to 'see' you as always!

  3. i bagged this kit on my recent shopping trip and love till max! i din realise that BB had such an awesome product that could do wonders for my eyes... after weeks of use, i feeling the concealer snot so creamy, maybe i'll get the old formula (single) to try and see if it works better!

  5. Really good video! This looks like a really great product. I'm going to have to buy it. I always powder over my concealer but don't carry the powder around with me so if I need a top up later in the day I can't. So this is such a great idea for a product.
I also want to try RMS Beauty's one so thanks for reminding me about that. I love their illuminator and cream blushes. xx

  6. I think this concealer is great and I'm so glad they've finally changed the packaging! I've got the old style one and have had nothing but problems with that stupid pot of loose power at the bottom. It would always go everywhere and that little puff you got with it was just irritaing and pointless. Really looking forward to trying the new one and seeing how it differs! :)

  7. I loved the old version, I'm hoping I'll love the new version the same. Looks like you got more with the old packaging though!

  8. I loved what the concealer did in terms of actually concealing my dark circles and brightening my eyes but i hated the fact that it creased on me like crazy!!! Which really does not encourage me to even try the new formula

  9. Yay! another video, what a treat :)
The new kit seems to really conceal well, although I'd be reluctant to buy it as I haven't really got on with BB base products in the past.
Can we please have more videos? please?

  11. I have also been testing the new kit and was very interested to see what your impressions were. Like you, I found the powder in the single kit a pain and so had great hopes for this new kit, which is much more convenient.

However, compared to the original, I am finding the concealer to be more difficult to work with and blend. I feel like I got a better finish with the other formulation. Maybe I need to change my eye cream or my application technique?

The old concealer worked as well with a brush (like an Illamasqua blending brush no 1) or by patting it on with my ring finger over a BB corrector. I would then set with powder with an old Sigma 224.

With this concealer, I don't get the same slip, even over eye cream and corrector, so I can't blend it as well so it seems to take much longer to apply. I apply it with my ring finger because I can't imagine it moving well enough to use the Illamasqua brush. I stopped using a proper concealer brush with the old BB concealer because I found that caked on the product too much.

The new one still settles into lines, although maybe slightly less than the old formulation. Coverage is still excellent though.

I can see that I'm going to have to carry on playing with it. I'm a bit disappointed because I wanted to love it on sight.

  12. Hi Mq, Cb - I think it's *very* different from the old formulation. It's harder to overcook the new formulation, but I also find it less easy to blend. After experimenting a bit more, I'd say the step of letting it 'sit' on the skin before blending is just as important with the new formula if not more so - the warmth of the skin helps it to melt a little bit into the skin before patting in and setting with the powder. A good eye cream is also crucial - I've gone back to the Premier Cru and have much better results with that than the (less moisturising) Emu eye cream I was testing.

Hello Delyteful Speaks - the new formula might suit you a lot better actually - you describe the issues a lot of people had with the old formulation. It's worth a look if you're passing a counter, but I wouldn't buy it blind.

Thank you all for the kind and encouraging comments - Trish, I'd love that!

  14. Really useful video - I still haven't taken the plunge and tried the BB Concealer, mainly because I saw it applied to a friend once and it was terribly difficult to manipulate. I think the 'apply then wait' technique is essential with this one.

I really like the idea of a corrector though!
