New base products were released in the revamp of the Suqqu line, and I had a look at them in Selfridges when I went to buy the Creamy Glow lipstick earlier this month. The shade numbering/naming has changed, and can be a little confusing. 00- shades are yellow based, 10- are neutral base and 20- are red based. The shades move from brightest to darkest vertically in the chart above, so 101 is lighter than 102, but darker than 001.
I was matched to 102 in the Cream foundation, which suggests the shades for darker skintones in this formula are extremely limited. I'm about an NC20 in MAC foundations, and Warm Ivory in Bobbi Brown. There are only three shades darker than my Suqqu match in the Frame Fix Cream (which does seem to run lighter than the other Frame Fix formulations).
The shades don't necessarily run true across the formulations. I was given sample of the Frame Fix Lasting Pact Foundation (compact cream foundation) in 102 and that is noticeably darker than the same shade in the Cream - I'd think I'd be 101 in the Lasting Pact.
I bought the 102 Frame Fix Cream Foundation (impulse purchase, which I am regretting a little as I rarely wear foundation) and will be posting a picture wearing it and a swatch later on in the week. It doesn't feel heavy on the skin, but it gives quite full coverage. There is also a definite knack to application (take a dot and apply it to freshly moisturised skin, blending quickly before it sets). On the plus side, you don't need any primer with it and the semi-matte finish means I don't need powder with it either, but at £65 for 25ml it is very expensive.

Hey Grace,
ReplyDeleteThanks for that, this is very informative (a good thing, as these charts are so confusing).
If you get a chance to try the compact sample you were given I would be very interested to know your thoughts...
Have a good day!

I think that is a really confusing system! I don't think it helps if the colours aren't uniform within their range of foundations.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to your post about the foundation. I think I'm awkward about foundation buying as want to be amazed so I can justify the expense. All too often they're just so so and I'm better off with my naked skin, so I wonder why I've bothered! x
hi i would like to know is it possible to post a price of suqqu makeup products or even skincare products? I really want to know the price in UK!! Coz the price in Japan are extremely high due to the currency rate...really appreciate if you could do that thanks a lot
ReplyDeleteHello shino,
ReplyDeleteI think in general Suqqu is cheaper in the UK than in Japan...you could check Selfridge's website for the price if you are interested, Suqqu is featured on the website.
Hello Grace,
The price of Suqqu strongly reminds me of Cle de Peau...it's just that Suqqu is under Kanebo and the latter is under Shiseido for high end cosmetics.
x
Hi Shino and Poseylass - I agree with Poseylass - it's about Cle de Peau prices. The new Creamy Glow lipsticks are £25, and the eyeshadow quads are about £38-£40, the blush duos are about £36. The massage cream is £60 (or at least it was that a year ago).
ReplyDeleteHI Poseylass and Grace London,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the information!!That's help a lot!!Actually what I really want to know is about the price of makeup...which doesn't shown on selfridges's website. As i'm not living in UK, are there anyone knows that i will have my tax refund if I buy sth over £50? Recently I just bought a eye shadow quad in Japan and manage to get a few more after having it in person. However, the price was higher in Japan when comparing with UK. I think I have to be patient until I come to UK someday^^
Hi Shino - I've posted the prices of the colour cosmetics in my reply to you, and this foundation is £65. The other foundations are around the £45 mark. I hope this is helpful.
ReplyDeleteI'd recommend emailing Selfridges about the VAT element - I think the shop can refund VAT if you buy in person on holiday, I don't know about shipping it abroad though, sorry!
Hi~Grace!Really thanks for your reply^^ Love your blog coz you'll have some reviews on Japanese makeup brand!! I'll keep watching~~
ReplyDeleteHi there....how are you getting on with this? Do you still like it? I'm coming over for my annual shopping trip in 2 weeks and am considering a Suqqu foundation for 'special occasions' (of which there aren't many!) or for days when I want a bit more coverage. I only wear Chantecaille's tinted moisturiser day to day but want something with a bit more coverage, that feels natural, and that is neither drying and cakey nor oily and greasy!! Would you recommend?
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
Hi Jo - well this ticks your boxes. It's not drying or greasy and it does give good coverage - almost too much for me, I find the very blank canvas it gives almost oddly disturbing!
ReplyDeleteCaveats - you have to work *fast* with it, and only apply to freshly moisturised skin. If you don't have the slip from a moisturiser it drags a bit on application and can emphasise dry patches. If you get it right, it lasts all day and looks flawless (it has a built in primer).
This is actually not that dissimilar to the Illamasqua Skin Base (which is not in any way a BB cream - it's a pigmented foundation cream paste formulation).
If I get a chance, I will try to do a video applying it (the Suqqu) soon.
Thanks for info :)
ReplyDeletewill continue my obsessive research into it!
