I bought two of the new MAC Mega Metal eyeshadows from the Peacocky collection yesterday, in Dalliance (left) and Unflappable (right). Dalliance is a pale gold with slight greenish undertones, Unflappable is a purple-toned charcoal in the pan that swatches more of a plum-toned charcoal on my skin.
I thought this combination reminded me a bit of Habenera, until I found Habenera and took some comparison photographs.
Swatches:
Unflappable is darker and cooler than Habanera, and has a finer texture with none of the micro-glimmer in Habanera. Dalliance is obviously more gold and less minty than Habanera.
I like the textures of the Mega Metal eyeshadows I picked very much; they're soft and pigmented and easy to work with. Unflappable is less metallic to my eye than Dalliance.
Picture applied: Unflappable in outer half of mobile lid and below lower lashes, Dalliance in inner half both blended into crease. Picture taken in (cold) natural light, which has muted the colours somewhat.
Picture in context of the rest of my face (with flash), which is a better overall colour representation of the two shades.
I did also buy one of the Kissable Lipcolours, and it was this one:
This is Peacocky. I'm not sure yet I'll be wearing it outside of the house other than dressing up as Delirium next Halloween, but I'm currently enjoying freaking out Mr London with it. I will probably post a full face picture wearing this soon. I'm not sure if it is just completely unflattering, or so totally unexpected that your eye doesn't quite know what to make of it. I wonder if blue lipstick will ever be able to go mainstream like black nail polish or (to a lesser extent) red eyeshadow have.
I might go back and buy one of the more traditional colours in the Kissable Lipcolour formula - it's very comfortable and not sticky, although it doesn't last very long on the lips. The eyeshadows are already selling out fast online, so a counter or MAC store are your best bet for getting hold of them.

I got both of those shadows, very impressed with them so far and they look lovely on you.
ReplyDeleteAlso I am rather taken with the formula of the lipcolours, I may well end up going back for more, I love the one I bought, Flaunting It.
Woohooo! Blue lip swatch! :D
ReplyDeleteI love how the colours look on you especially in the full face shot. It's really interesting to see the comparison too.
I got Unflappable and Prance. I agree that the paler shades are a lot more metallic in appearance. I wanted Odalisque too but found it too sheer when I swatched it. I need to play about with the brush I use for Unflappable as I found my 217 blender resulted in fairly washed out colour. I'm keen to try it as a liner too.
MB x
Hi Charlie - yes, the lipcolour formula is very nice, and the colour you picked is a bit more flattering :)
ReplyDeleteHi MB - I found both the dark blue and the purple/lilac ones quite sheer too - they'd need some work to build up. Odd, because the chocolate brown was really pigmented - Unflappable is somewhere in the middle. I use the MAC 239 brush for laying down colour.
I mentioned to the SA that I had been interested in Odalisque but was too sheer and she suggested a cream base. She even mentioned using Delft but I think I going to those sorts of lengths would probably put me off ever wearing it.
ReplyDeleteThe chocolate brown was really pigmented, I swatched the dark blue and the forest green and I found they were sheer too. It seems quite variable and I'm very pleased I waited to see it in person.
Thanks for the 239 suggestion.
Same here - if I have to layer a million different products to make the colour show up I'm not interested. I thought the blue was a nice colour, but it was more of a sheen than a full-on metallic eyeshadow. I wonder why they couldn't/didn't make the pigmentation levels the same across the collection?
ReplyDeleteI swatched these yesterday and Unflappable is definitely the one that grabbed me. I kept thinking it reminds me of something I might have so I need to check before I get this. I was really trying to be good and didn't get anything.
ReplyDeleteWould love to see a full face pic of the blue - on the lips it looks quite nice.
Interesting as the issues you both describe are the issues I've had with my RBR shadows - although I appear to have cracked that now (with a little help!)
ReplyDeleteI think the cream base is a great idea, but then I often use a paint pot as a primer anyway, that or primer potion and I couldn't use these shadows without a primer as they creased on me yesterday (not badly, but a little (ego and dalliance)).
Modesty, I find a swatch of the green fairly sheer but its quite buildable and quickly buildable too and you know how rubbish I am these things, getting shadows to apply in any kind of visible fashion is not my forte!
It's a real shame they didn't make all the colours as metallic and pigmented as the pale colours though, they really would have been amazing!
Hi Meeta - I think Unflappable is quite similar to Moth Brown - that's what it is most commonly being compared to. It's also quite similar to the cooler taupe single eyeshadow from a recent Chanel collection - I want to say the autumn collection?
ReplyDeleteI was so tempted to buy the blue lipcolor!!!!! Just for the reason it's blue lol.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your FOTD, I think teamed with a simple winged eye it *might* just look amazing! x
I have just checked and can't find anything I own that is quite like it - although rediscovered how lovely the UD Rockstar and Topshop's Burnish (from AW10) pencil are:) I don't have Moth Brown or the Chanel one so I think this may mean a trip to MAC!
ReplyDeleteI had those very two shadow shades in my hands today but went for Prance and Centre Stage in the end, feel a bit regrettful now as they look really nice in your pictures.
ReplyDeleteWell, unlike your wild self I went for the most ho hum lip colour, woo me ;) I do wonder how that blue would look mix in with a deep plum/red colour, or would that be strange x
I love the photo of your face Grace - you look so serene. These look great, first time I have been interested in a MAC collection in a long while, OH has promised me a trip into town tomorrow hhmmmm what to buy??Thanks for this. Jan x
ReplyDeleteThe Peacocky looks a really pretty shade in your swatch - slightly more forget-me-not colour than in Temptalia's pics. Look forward to the FOTD. x
ReplyDeleteI love Unflappable on you Grace. It's interesting that the pigmentation varies so much in the eyeshadows though - you'd think it would be fairly consistent within a collection.
ReplyDeleteYou might start a blue lipstick trend! :D
Dammit I want the blue lipstick just to get strange looks!
ReplyDeleteIt's so unusual for you to buy MAC anymore. The blue lipstick will definitely get lost one day in Miss London's room. I'm sure she'll be fascinated by it.
ReplyDeleteThe dark Mega Metals aren't metallic but the light ones are. I'm very happy with the texture of these. I think my favorite is Tweet Me which surprises me but there's something that just pops about the peach in that shade.
Hi Marcia - I know, I very rarely buy from a MAC collection these days, there are just too many! This one grabbed me though. I find the blue lipstick fascinating myself ;)
ReplyDeleteHey Olivia - I know, perfect for trips to IKEA, right?
Those two shadows you picked up are among the best of the whole collection imo!
ReplyDeleteThey were on my "possible" purchases list, but not sure if I should take the plunge after all (too much makeup left unloved already)!!!
I gotta say, they do look beautiful together, great eye look you did with them!!!
xxx
Er, I've worn blue out before, and green. Then again, you can get away with anything in Dalston!
ReplyDeletexx
Ok is this weird but I really like the blue lip! And I don't like crazy colors! Thanks and why not right!
