By Terry Touche Veloutee swatches and first impressions

A good friend (and bad influence) asked me if I could have a look at the three colours of Touche Veloutee concealer to help her with shade choice, and here are the swatches.

Touche Veloutee claims to give lightweight but full coverage, with botanical ingredients to help combat dark circles, eye bags, wrinkles et al. The texture reminds me a lot of Sisley Phytocernes concealer, although the Touche Veloutee is a little more moisturising and fuller coverage.

Porcelain looks like the best match on my hand, but it's a bit too light and pink for me (and has a slightly stronger pink cast that my camera couldn't pick up in the not-very-sunny street). My skin is about NC20, Bobbi Brown Warm Ivory coloured. Cream is a bit dark for me (but I think it'd be your colour, Kathy).  Beige is a bit warmer and darker than Cream, but wouldn't work for any skin darker than a golden olive; there are no colour matches for deeper skintones.

I wasn't tempted to buy one (I prefer the texture of my rms Beauty 'un' cover-up) but this would be good for a less dry skin or someone who wants a soft matte texture, rather than a creamy one. Although the product blurb states there are 'soft focus pigments' in the formulation there is absolutely no discernible shimmer to my eye (a very good thing in my opinion - I don't care for the shimmering eye concealer-highlighters).

By Terry Touche Veloutee is available at SpaceNK, and costs £30 (it is quite a big tube though).

  1. I have this in Porcelain and I love it (I am quite pink!). I find it works well as an under eye concealer for me as it's so light in texture - I usually have a real problem with products creasing and pooling in my fine lines. I had a Cult Beauty delivery today and now have the RMS Uncover so I am looking forward to trying that too :-)

  2. Its such a shame they dont cater for darker skin tones I mean really? I was sold on the fact the product contains botanical ingriedients and reduces dark circles...the search for a good concealer continues then.

  3. Hi Claire. From swatching it, I'd imagine the ByT would wear well - it kind of set on my hand, and took some removing! Would be interested to see what you think of the rms in comparison.

Hi Imo - I think it's an absolute shame, and very shortsighted the way that many of the french brands don't seem to cater to darker skintones.

  4. I got this in the lightest shade a few weeks ago after much consideration and am impressed. It is not a miracle worker, but I see a definite improvement on my under eye area and it doesn't leave me feeling self conscious, like I've caked on concealer. I'd love to try the RMS one but I think it would be too dark for me. What do you think Grace (having now seen me in the flesh!)?

  5. Hmm. I *think* that the rms 11 would blend in well, but if it doesn't, it's an expensive mistake. Stick with the By Terry for now, when we next meet you can have a poke at my rms. Otherwise, have a look in Content (off Marylebone High St, at the back of Selfridges) if you're in London.

  6. Thank you!!! So kind of you to take a look at these!!!

On picture alone, I'm toiling between Cream and Beige. I'm NC25 and I fear the beige might be a tad too dark, and I think I'd rather err on the side of lighter than darker for under my eyes.

I like how its described as lightweight, but with a full coverage; that's pretty much what I'm looking for. I think I shall pull the trigger once I decide my shade once and for all.

And PS - I'm not sure who is the bad influence between you and I, seeing as though I've got 3 Tom Ford lipsticks on their way to me at the moment...

  7. I bought this in Porcelain, I was unable to swatch Cream as the tester had vanished. Porcelain is definitely too light on me, I applied it on the train to London and scared myself in the half dark! From your swatch I would think Cream would be too dark though.

I'm a bit undecided about it to be honest. It's not just the colour but the texture feels a bit dry on me sometimes and I can 'see' it even when blended it. One of my other gripes is that it dispenses too much product per pump. Anyway, I better stop going on. It's definitely not all bad but the hunt for the perfect undereye concealer continues!

  8. Hey Kat :) I think the Cream would be the best bet for NC25 myself. It has a slightly more peachy tint than the Beige, which is better for undereyes in my opinion. There's not much between them in depth of shade. Oh, let's not even go to Lemming counting! :D

Hey MB - yes, same here; Porcelain a bit too light, Cream a bit too dark. The Porcelain was also *very* pink to me (but I'm not pink at all).

  9. the colour range is disappointing! I bought porcelain and it's too light for me, yet people with a lighter skin tone than me are few and far between. It's so pink there is no way it can be used on the face, even on those with rosy undertones.

  10. 'Cream' looks like it'd be perfect for me. I love 'By Terry' so I'll definitely check this out next time I'm in SpaceNK (but I'm blaming you if I part with £30 for it!!) ;)

  11. So helpful of you to swatch the shades! I wish someone would do the same with SUQQU - their new shade system is confusing just from looking at the digital swatch!

  12. Hi A MU Tale - I wish the shade range was wider too. I also found the pink to be very pink.

Hello Catherine - I managed to resist myself! I was quite close to caving on one of the new Rouge Terrybly pink shades though ;)

Hi Akisa - I might try to do that for Suqqu. The new shades are really confusing.

  13. I have this in the shade cream. i loved it at first but lately have been finding a bit heavy (possibly due to drier winter weather). i now use Diorskin nude under my eyes and for evening out skintone, which is much more moisturising, however i still use my Touche Veloutee for covering up marks. as you say you do get a tonne of product - i've had mine for about 18 months now and still seems to be plenty left!

  15. I really liked the Touche Veloutee, mine ran out so I bought their newer one in the blue tube but am so far not impressed. Now, you mention the new Terrybly pink shades, I was wondering about ordering one but the swatches on SpaceNK are a bit mental, any recs? x

  16. Hi Replica - yes, the colour swatches on SpaceNK are pants. They were all pretty bright. I can have a look and try to swatch next week maybe. I'm assuming you want something not too bright, rosy pinky?

Hi Amina - I think I'd find it a little drying under my eyes too, happy to stick with my rms. You do get a lot of product though.

Hi Jeweled Thumb - yes, By Terry is expensive, and even more so in the US.

  17. Hi Grace,
I did wonder if they would be a bit daring for me ;) I would appreciate your opinon though if you did get round to having a closer look at them as your descriptions are always spot on and you are right about a rosy pinky shade. I'm going to get the 101 anyhow.
I was wondering about the Serge Normant haircare, have you heard anything about that range? x

  18. Hello gals, have any of you tried Eve Pearl's under eye concealer? It is my favorite and I have tried many, many different brands of concealer. The color she recommends most often is 'salmon.' It is a bit of a chameleon color; it works for most light to medium skin tones. Also, it appears more peachy than you'd think would work, but after patting it in with a sponge or your ring finger, the shade blends beautifully and does a great job of cancelling out bluish under eye circles. Eve has many informative videos on YouTube.

    1. Hi Jo - On SpaceNK and Barneys in the US number 2 is called Cream, and it's also Cream when I look at the ByTerry website http://www.byterry.com/make-up/complexion/concealer/touche-veloutee-anglais.html. I think you are looking at Touche Expert, which comes in 6 shades, and in that shade #2 is called Nude.
