The Premier Cru Eye Cream claims to be able to target dark circles, age spots, wrinkles, puffiness and loss of elasticity. In line with the rest of the Caudalie line, the active ingredients are based around grape/vine extracts - grapevine resveratrol to rejuvenate the skin, viniferine from wine sap to brighten dark spots by regulating melanin production and antioxidant grape-seed polyphenols to help prevent future damage. It also contains moisturising ingredients including avocado butter and hyaluronic acid, and caffeine and peptides to combat puffiness and dark circles. Like other Caudalie products, it does not contain parabens or mineral oil.
It's a shame this wasn't available following my pregnancy with Miss L, because I had quite bad dark spots at the top of my cheekbones/orbital socket then due to hormones. Those have all faded now, due to diligent use of sunscreen and treatment products. I will be interested to see if this does have any effect on my dark circles; so far, the only thing that really works on those is a good concealer.
Anyway, these are my thoughts so far:
- The pump mechanism is very sensitive, enabling you to dispense only half (or less) of a pump, so there is no wastage of product.
- The cream sinks in quickly, leaving no residue on the skin's surface. The texture is pleasant to use and does not feel greasy or silicone-slippery. It works well under concealer.
- It moisturises effectively; fine lines are smoothed on application, and my eyes don't feel dry by the end of the day or when I wake up in the morning.
- It does have a scent. It's described as a delicate oak rose scent, and it smells like an Annick Goutal Rose Eye Balm I used to use. It doesn't bother me and it does dissipate quickly.
- The brightening effect from the pearlised particles is very subtle indeed. I'm quite glad about this, as the one thing I'm not so keen on with the Sarah Chapman Eye Recovery I typically use is the shimmer particles.
Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream is available from SpaceNK and Selfridges.
Disclosure: product was provided without charge as PR sample.

Great review - looks promising. I like the sound of the pump mechanism too. There's nothing worse than wrestling with bad packaging when you're in a hurry!
ReplyDeleteooooh I shall have a look for that. I'm always interested in an eye cream and I can get this one easily for a change! I've been using the Clarins one (for old ladies) for the past two years (even tho I'm not an old lady) and I'm on my 10th bottle. I don't see a reason to change, but...maybe I will, depending on your review. It's a similar price to Clarins, so no cost saving. It'll be interesting to see what you say in a month.

Sounds interesting, I've liked what I tried from Caudalie so far, especially the Premier Cru face cream after getting a sample. Will look forward to hearing your verdict on the eye cream in a month's time. Nice to see you last night!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting review. I still have quite a few spots of pigmentation from pregnancies and it's on my list of things to tackle. I may have to pick your brains for advice! Do you think this might help with marks that have been there a while?

Hi Dempss - More than it just being a real pain, I resent wasting half the product, especially with something like an eye cream where you only need a tiny amount each time. A good pump is essential.
ReplyDeleteHello Jo - I'm interested to see how it compares to the Sarah Chapman I love (which is also the same price point). I'll report back!
Hi LL - it was lovely to see you too! I haven't tried the Premier Cru face cream, I wondered if it might be a bit too rich for my skin, which is normal/dry other than around my eyes.
Hey MB - I had really good results with botanical faders. The Caudalie Vinoperfect serum gets good reviews, but I think I did better with the Renee Rouleau Glycolic serum at night and good sun protection during the day. It's well worth having a go with the White Gold from Alpha H if you got that in the samples/trial sizes last night.
Thanks Grace. I did get some sample of the White Gold so I will give that a try alongside the SPF. I'm very tempted by botanticals though. I don't know why that is but is generally the case for me with skincare. I suspect it's because I know relatively little about plants so there's less need to suspend my disbelief! lol.
ReplyDeleteLOL MB! I do find I get the best results from brands that mix botanicals with proven ingredients like AHAs or retinols. Exfoliate, antioxidant and protect works best at the end of the day.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, it will have to be good to beat your Sarah Chapman! Will look forward to your final review. I'm currently using that La Mer intense, I want to give it a good month before I review it, been using it about 2 weeks now and my eye area has not turned into that of a 20 year old so I am hopeful something spectacular will happen overnight! x
ReplyDeleteDear Grace - I mithered about my comment which had too much about my blog, than the thoughts than that your post generated, which on reflection I was not happy about. So as to the post, I think I am a more of the botanical ingredients person, and I do find it interesting that one tends to veer to more botanical or more scientific brands. Agree that a pump can be a deal breaker especially if the defective mechanism results in gunky dried up product. Look forward to the update. Jan x
ReplyDeleteDear Jan - no it didn't! If someone has posted on a similar issue or have an alternative viewpoint I love for them to point me in the direction of their post - in my view a blog works best when it's a discussion, rather than a soliloquy!
ReplyDeleteI find the botanicals to be as fragranced (if not more so) than some of the 'scientific' lines. Where I used to have trouble with the scientific lines was in avoiding a lot of mineral oil/silicones, although that's getting better. My ideal is a range like Renee Rouleau that has the best of both worlds.
Hi Replica - will be very interested to see how you do with the La Mer after a longer time period!
ReplyDeleteThanks Grace, that is a comfort. Jan x
ReplyDeleteHi Jan, there you are! Sorry to use Grace's blog as a forum but your old blog disappeared and I'm so happy to see you again! Heading over right now...
ReplyDeleteJo :)
What perfect timing - I was just looking at this in SpaceNK today. I love the other eye serum from Caudalie and this sounds very interesting. I think I may well try it out after reading this!
