I had a look at the NARS Holiday 2010 collection last week in Selfridges, and it is a very good one indeed from Monsieur Nars.
I am most tempted by the Melusine eyeshadow duo, which is a matte deep purple and a silver mauve shimmer. The deep purple is quite red-toned, so I am concerned it could be difficult to wear (it's somewhere between the Daphne and Lulu singles in colour). I think that layering it over a grey/charcoal cream eyeshadow or pencil would help with that though, and the silvery mauve is beautiful; not as frosty as the mint green in the Habanera duo and so easier to wear in my opinion.
Sex Appeal blush is a lighter, less shimmery version of Orgasm. It was quite light against my paleish skin, so would be best for those looking for a subtle blush or on paler skintones. I don't think it'd be my first choice of NARS blush for a deeper or warmer complexion (for a similar tone with more oomph I'd recommend Torrid).
The Okinawa eyeshadow trio is stunning to look at, but I know I wouldn't wear the blue. It's a beautiful combination for a cool smoky eye though. Etrusque single eyeshadow is a warm gold metallic, and more pigmented and less yellow than the gold eyeshadow from the Night Series (Night Sun). I'm tempted by this one too, and I don't usually do gold eyeshadows.
Downtown lipgloss is a very interesting metallic lavender gloss. It's well-pigmented, but again, I don't think I'd be brave enough to wear it! I prefer the creamy warm purple-red of Bougainville. I didn't look particularly closely at the lip colours as NARS lipsticks tend to disagree with my dry lips, but they are a berry shimmer and a classic beige nude cream. None of the lip products stood out to me, but I do tend to prefer NARS eyeshadows and blushes to his lip products.

I really like the gold glitter shadow.
ReplyDeleteYou know how I bought all that Shu stuff? Well I actually wanted NARS stuff.....OH!!! I will try again next month!
ReplyDeleteI saw this on Saturday and really liked the Melusine duo as I love bruised plumy purples shades but I wasn't sure if it was too similar to Sorcery by MAC so I didn't get it. I did buy Downtown lipgloss which looks quite unique and not something I have.
ReplyDeleteI bought Etrusque (the gold shadow), Bougainvillea (the red-purple lipgloss), Sex Appeal (the blush), the Multiple holiday gift set and Melusine. (I had a 15% discount coupon from HQHair and cashback from TopCashback so I went to town (figuratively speaking)).
ReplyDeleteThen, like a total numpty, I left them all, still boxed and wrapped in bubblewrap, on a train. So cross with myself. Needless to say they have not been handed in, so Christmas came early for someone this year.
On a completely different subject, just bought the RMS eye colour in magic taupe. I can't remember the real name, but this one will do because it's great. Lovely product, which did crease but not that badly. (I was expecting lots of creasing after your review). Great recommendation, thank you.
Hi Mq,Cb Oh NO! I literally said this out loud as I read your comment. I'd be gutted. St Anthony vibes for your lost NARS.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the rms Beauty eyeshadow. I'd rather err on over- than understating a flaw in a product in a review, even if I love it.
Hello Meeta - Downtown is an unusual shade and texture, although I wasn't brave enough to buy it I was drawn to swatch it like a magpie. I'll be interested to read how you wear it.
Hi OC - there is always next month! The Shu is lovely.
Hi Pink Dolly - it's one of the nicest golds I've seen in a long time.
Melusine duo and the gold shadow looks gorgeous. Even though my first reaction to any purple eyeshadow I find myself coo-ing over is "do I really need another purple shadow?" I think the silver and purple would create a really beautiful look.
ReplyDeleteMelusine looks great, but I'm afraid that the dark purple might be too chalky. I guess I'll have to see in person :)
ReplyDeleteoh my! I just found my holiday stocking stuffers for the Hubs to get me!
ReplyDeleteI have the Melusine duo and I really like it. The purple swatches badly so I was concerned about how it would apply but it's actually fine on the eye. In the pan it looks similar to MAC Vibrant Grape but on the eye it isn't as red toned. I love the silvery mauve and in fact wore that on it's own with a bit of liner today.
ReplyDeleteI love this collection and have enjoyed trying a bit more NARS. I'm interested to try more of the eyeshadows now.

Thanks for the preview, we have not seen it here in Canada yet but will be checking it out in the next week or two! All the best
