When I got this home and swatched it on my hand, I thought it looked remarkably similar to the Rouge Bunny Rouge Lola eye kohl I already own.
Top Rouge Bunny Rouge Lola, Bottom Le Metier De Beaute Tamarack
Top swatch is Tamarack, bottom is RBR Lola. Surprisingly, Lola swatches darker than Tamarack, although there isn't much in it, and Lola has a slightly more obvious shimmer. They have very similar textures too - easy to smudge, great base for eyeshadows but not my first choice for a crisp line.
So, if you have one of these you don't need the other. If you're buying online anyway, I'd recommend the Rouge Bunny Rouge - it's £17 for 1.6g compared to £20 for 1.25g for the Le Metier. If you can't get hold of the Rouge Bunny Rouge, the Le Metier is a good substitute.

I think pretty much every brand's pencils are made by the same company in Germany so there's probably not much difference.
ReplyDeleteI could not agree with you more.
ReplyDeleteI purchased Tamarack on a recent spree because I fell in live with the colour. And yes, it does work for me as a base but, on its own, it disappears, both from the lids and the waterline, in a couple of hours tops.
So, although useful for its intended purpose as a base, I don't think it is actually worth the investment...in plain contrast to their liquid eyeliner which is totally fab!

I can only use it as a base too. It doesn't last long enough on me to line. But I've tried other pencils to smudge on my lids and don't agree they are all the same. I'd love a less expensive alternative like RBR but I haven't found one in the US yet.
ReplyDeleteHi GreatSheElephant - the LMDB is made in Germany, but the RBR is made in Italy. I keep meaning to try the Gosh eye pencils, I have heard that they are very good, particularly at the price.
ReplyDeleteHi Nina and Marcia - I do think both make good eyeshadow bases, but don't love them for a sharp line. Marcia - if I get some of those Gosh, I'll have to send you one to try.
RBR Lola looks lovely, I need to go through my stash and see if I own anyth similar, *doubtful*!!! :)

I was told to not use this as an eye liner and only as a base and in the water line because it binds to moisture. and I love the liquid and to use that ass an eye liner pencil. I like how it works and I used a old Nars and Bobbi pencil as a base and I was creasing mid afternoon. Is it me but I do think this one works as a base. Are there any other pencils that don't crease of fade as a base?
ReplyDeleteHi Classyldy I find that the Rouge Bunny Rouge eye pencil works well as a base too, and I like the Sue Devitt chubby pencils for this too.
ReplyDeleteI think selling an eye pencil that doesn't work terribly well as an eyeliner is a very odd choice (and telling people not to use it as an eyeliner even more so!) It is a good eye base though ;)
