Chanel Khaki Rose nail polish
I bought this polish yesterday during an emergency lunch break sanity stop in Selfridges. I was sucked into the whole limited-edition-buy-it-now-if-you-want-it-before-it's-a-million-pounds-on-ebay thing, and if this was part of a regular Chanel collection I don't think I would have bought it.
Khaki Rose is part of the very limited edition Les Khakis de Chanel; a set of three nail polishes released by Chanel to celebrate Fashion Night Out (as far as I can tell, an annual shopping evening event). The idea, according to the sale assistant, is to wear all three colours on alternative nails in a kind of tonal ombre manicure. Nice idea, looked interesting on the sales assistants sporting them, but would set you back close to £60 to buy all three (I don't remember Chanel nail polishes being £19 each either). I wasn't that tempted by Khaki Vert or Khaki Brun* so just opted for the Khaki Rose.
This taupe/sludge shade doesn't look particularly rosy on its own, but it is is pinker than the Vert or Brun, and also a touch pinker than Particuliere from Spring 2010, which is a bit more mauve. The texture is a cream with no shimmer whatsoever, and it applied very easily indeed with full coverage in two coats.
There are excellent comparison pictures on www.thebeautylookbook.com here:

This is really very similar to Particuliere to my eye. I didn't buy Particuliere, mostly because by the time I saw it at a counter I was already a bit bored of the shade from seeing it in every magazine and lots of blogs. Having applied Khaki Rose I think it's quite an elegant neutral and it doesn't give me corpse hands. I still prefer Nubar Sandstone though.
*I thought Khaki Brun looked like baby poo and Khaki Vert looked like poorly baby poo.

YOu are a gem!
ReplyDeleteYou have squashed my yearning for these. Poorly baby poo is not a look I want to do.
He he baby poo indeed! I really liked the look of these, but you've def saved me £19 so thank you! Khaki Rose doesn't really look like it has any pink tones at all.
ReplyDeleteI am aware that this might make me a bad nail blogger, but spanking £60 on a range that looks similar enough to items I already have doesn't appeal to me.
ReplyDeletePlus Chanel's formula hates me and I'm lucky to get two days out of a manicure.
Grumble.
At last something from Chanel that I don't want :)
ReplyDeleteHa Ha love idea of poorly baby poo - not literally I hasten to add. Not for me either, but helpful to know that it isn't! Thanks for the clear pics Jan
ReplyDeleteWoah, £19 for a nail varnish...?? Sorry Chanel, but that's just not worth it for me.
ReplyDeleteMmm, didn't do much for me either. I did get Particuliere and loved it, wore it all summer long on my toes - it just goes with everything. I thought it was LE but the sales assistant here in France tells me it's going to be part of the ongoing range?
ReplyDeleteI fancy Steel from the new SOHO range but of course it's only in the US and in Chanel boutiques blah blah. Which makes me want it more.
£19 - I know it's a lot but for me it lasts and lasts, and with Partic I only need one coat, so it didn't seem so bad....
Baby poo though. Er, no thanks.
This is exactly what I've thought when I saw this shade: "It looks like Particuliere!" Besides, I don't see any "Rose" here, so the name is weird... No, I don't wish any of these either! :)
ReplyDeleteSteel fro Soho collection looks very appealing though, and read shades of the October release...
These look horrible. I thought particuliere was ugly but these...
ReplyDeleteHey Joolz - This is the best of the bunch! Oh well.
ReplyDeleteHi Goya - it is really similar, to the extent that someone had accidentally put the Particuliere tester in the Khaki Rose spot on the display.
Hi Jo - I thought I remembered them being £16, did they go up recently? They do apply beautifully.
Hi The Wrong Mademoiselle - I'd pay it for a lovely colour though ;)
Helen, you will be kicked out of nail blogger club. Um yes. Blow that, basically.
Hi Lipstickmama - lol.
Hey Marina - how often does that happen, lol!
Hi Suzume - the promo pictures definitely looked more rosy to me than it does in real life. It looks rosier next to the other two, but the other two are a bit horrible in my opinion.
Hey OC - I *saved* you money (is proud!)
No, I don't think the nail polish prices have gone up, I just think the £19 is for these particular LE polishes. I definitely paid £16.50 for Paradoxal the other day.
ReplyDeleteKhaki Rose is the one I was looking at getting, I'm very pleased to see that it's not comparable to baby poo or poorly baby poo. The joy of cosmetics for me is to take my mind off these sorts of things ;). I think it looks nice, the rose tone is more subtle than I was expecting though.
Jane x
it's nice enough but not hugely feeling it or any of the others. it actually looks v similar to essie mink muffs to me as well as particuliere x
ReplyDeletethere I was merrily looking at pictures of Brun and Vert on blogs and now all I see is poo, I think it must be the first time you have encouraged me not to spend, my wallet thanks you :)
ReplyDeleteReally like this nail colour, very pretty.
