Blackpepper Jay is a matte browned charcoal grey eyeshadow. To my eye it's mostly grey with a hint of brown. I like it in a wash over my lid with some black eyeliner for a simple smoky look, and I also like it with Rouge Bunny Rouge Solstice Halcyon (semi-matte light taupe).
I find it easy to pick up and deposit pigment and easy to blend, so for me it's worth paying the extra for Rouge Bunny Rouge because I find I can have a hard time on both those points with other matte eyeshadows. There are similar shades available in MAC and other brands, but the ease of use (and the fact that Rouge Bunny Rouge eyeshadows don't irritate my dry eyelids) make the premium this brand charges worthwhile for me.
Swatched on my hand.

I can really see how this shade would work well for you :D this is one brand I need to check out now I'm in the UK. I know what you mean about some mattes being hard to work with. There's too many things I want!
ReplyDeleteIt looks very similar to a Bobbi Brown eyeshadow I have in my Raspberry palette (can't for the love of me remember the name :/ ), but that one is a NIGHTMARE to blend. A shame, because the colour is gorgeous and so easy to wear on my colouring! Might have a look at this RBR shadow :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful color and I am always on the hunt for shades that make a beautiful smokey look - APART from black, it's just too harsh on my light skin... Oh dear, I want this one!
ReplyDeleteI like that this is a more charcoal-looking shade, this would be ideal for lining the eyes for a softer look then black liner.
ReplyDeleteIf there is one brand where I want all the e/s, (and also lipgloss) it is definitely Rouge Bunny Rouge. I have Solstic Halycon and Mysterious Tinamou and love them.

Hmm, I seem to have completely skipped their matte range lol, but yes, RBR eyeshadows are very well pigmented and nicely formulated... I should have a look at their shades... and that looks like a very pretty grey...:)
