Lancome Hypnose Precious Cells Mascara - 1 month of use

I posted here that I'd started using Lancome Hypnose Precious Cells mascara, and that I'd update on whether it had improved the condition of my eyelashes after a month or so of use.

Here's my starting 'before' picture with no mascara, eyelashes curled.
Here's what my bare eyelashes look like after using no mascara other than Lancome Hypnose Precious Cells Mascara for just over a month. I don't use mascara on my lower lashes, and I think you can see those haven't changed. I do think that my natural lashes look darker right to the tips now, even without mascara, and my lashline looks a bit thicker. I haven't changed my routine in any other regard, and if anything I've been a bit rougher with my eyelashes - sometimes at night I think they still have mascara on them when they don't and I try to remove it.

I like this mascara a lot; it doesn't make my lashes look clumpy, it lengthens nicely and it's a good true black. I do feel it has improved the condition of my lashes, and I will continue to use it. It's also less expensive than many of the lash conditioning/lengthening treatment formulas that have been launched recently (the Lancome is about £20). It doesn't give as dramatic an effect as the formulas that contain prostaglandins, but then I'd rather avoid the potential side-effects of those. I'd like to see Lancome launch a colourless version for nighttime use too.

I'll continue to monitor the effects, and will report back in another month.

  1. What I've read is that it takes 6 weeks for new hair to grow so that's the point you'll really know if it's making a difference. But it looks like a good start.

  2. You can really see a differences in your lashes. They look a lot fuller and I can see why you think you still have mascara residue! I'm not keen on the prostaglandin idea so think this could be a good purchase. I'd love longer, more obvious lashes.

  3. I can see the effect - this is awesome!! I would have not thought it to be possible without these pics! What are the side effects of prostaglandins?

  4. I can see the difference, it does look really nice on, I am tempted to try this although I do wonder with these ones that alter the growth if you'd get any long-term negative effects? Although I'm probably just paranoid :)

  6. @Replica, if you're paranoid then so am I! I'm very nervous of anything that stimulates growth where it shouldn't. Plus the fact that they cause hair growth under the eye if you a messy with the application is enough to have me running for the hills!

  7. I should qualify that it's the prostaglandins that I'm paranoid about not this mascara.

  8. @Replica, Sam and ModestyBrown - this is exactly the reason why I'm leery of the prostaglandins. They can cause changes in skin and pupil coloration, and the idea of growing hair where I don't want it puts me off.

The Lancome uses lash conditioning ingredients, rather than the growth stimulating ones. It's a bit like Talika in a mascara.

  10. I am a doctor that works with prostaglandin based products and I can understand the fears mentioned above.

Studies have proven that less than 4% of individuals notice side effects. For comparison, when aspirin is taken 15% of individuals develop side effects and 1 in 1000 will develop a GI bleed.

The most common side effect is a slight irritation for the first few applications.

The discolouration of the eye was noted in individuals using prostaglandins for glaucoma, applying it directly onto the eye every day for long periods of time. It has never been demonstrated in a cosmetic setting and with over 1.5 million bottles sold the figures are looking good.

I hope that this information provides a difference perspective.

I will also add that prostaglandin based treatments are not suitable for everyone. I believe that everyone should have all of the available information before making a decision.

    Kind regards,

  11. There's definitely a difference, it does look like you have stronger lashes and more of them!
I need to keep this in mind for future mascara purchases! Thx!
