Shu Uemura Hard Brow Pencil in Seal Brown

This is a product I am never without. Like a lot of people, I overplucked my brows as a teenager, and the outer halves have never completely recovered.

I like the Shu Uemura hard brow pencil because it doesn't deposit too much colour. In fact, if you try to test it on the back of your hand you'll probably find that you can't swatch it, because it works with the oils in your eyebrow hair to deposit colour. Seal Brown is a greyish brown that doesn't have any orange tones to it, and works well for most brunettes.

My naked eyebrow:

With the Shu brow pencil applied. I concentrate application along the top line of my brow and in the outer half, where my brow is most sparse.
It doesn't give drag queen eyebrows, it just adds a bit of subtle definition and makes my eyebrows look more finished.

  1. I'm a fan of this pencil too--it does an excellent job of filling in my colorless brows (I'm so glad I discovered brow pencils lol) and is a good shade for blondes as well!

  2. I think this is what I need. I have just bought a Dior 'powder' pencil which gives a nice finish but needs an extremely light hand, I haven't quite got the hang of it yet. If you like grey brown pencils Laura Mercier Blonde is another great one.

  3. I've been meaning to buy this for such a long time. I've tried a few cheapie brow pencils but they always have too much red in them to look natural. Your photos suggest seal brown would be perfect.

It's firmly on the list of things to hunt out if I ever convince my husband in to a jaunt to London!

  4. i love this pencil! I am naturally very blonde with transparent brows and this ashy pencil is perfect for my colouring. I am in Aberdeen and I mail order mine from Shu Uemura in London - just give them a ring and it usually arrives within a couple of days x

  6. Thanks for the tip millmollmac, I hadn't thought to ring them but it's a good idea. It beats waiting for a trip to London :)

  7. Hi Jitterbug Doll - it's a really versatile shade - apart from skintone (and you are even fairer), our colouring couldn't be more different!

Hi Amina - I like this because I can't overcook it. The LM one sounds nice too.

Hi Jane - the lack of red tones is exactly what I like best about it - most pencils turn orange on my brows. Millmollmac's suggestion is a really good one - the staff in the Shu shop in Covent Garden are v helpful. It is definitely worth a visit when you are in London though!

Hi Millmollmac - thank you very much for the helpful comment :)

  11. The Shu brow pencil really is one of the best, being a working make up artist, there's always a few in my kit and it never fails...its for subtle definition and enhancement of the brow. Highly recommended!

  12. Just ordered mine in the same color. Really excited to finally try this! My over plucked, super sparse brows are the bane of my existence.
