Bobbi Brown Treatment Lip Shine spf 15 in Papaya

I bought one of the new Bobbi Brown Treatment Lip Shines this weekend, opting for Papaya, a warm pink/coral. It works well with Nectar blush by Bobbi Brown, also pictured.

The formula includes Apricot, Shea, Cocoa, Illipe, Jojoba, Babassu, Avocado and Olive oils/butters, and claims to moisturise and improve the condition of the lips over time. It also includes a -cinnamate compound to provide spf 15 sun protection, and I'm slightly wary of this because my lips don't generally do very well with lip products with chemical sunscreen in it. There's no fragrance listed in the ingredients, but it has a pleasant faint slightly creamy/fruity smell from the natural ingredients.

Applied: I'm actually quite surprised by how well the Bobbi Brown Treatment Lip Shine does seem to plump out and smooth the lines in my lips. It gives decent colour too, for a treatment/shine product, although it doesn't last for very long (it stands up against most standard lipsticks though, and does leave a bit of a tint of colour). I think I can feel a bit of a tingle from the chemical sunscreen in it but that could be psychological and I will report back if I have to discontinue use due to irritation (at the moment, my lips feel comfortable and in good condition after a couple of days' continuous use).

At 2g, you don't get very much product either, and I could see myself using it up quickly if I was a normal person who only had a handful of different lip colour products. It stands up pretty well as an alternative to the Chantecaille Lip Chics, if you don't want to spend quite that much on a lip product.

  1. hmm, maybe i'll pick this up as i have the nectar blush...

love to know how to match blush with lipstick. I'm a total neutral person always uses boring brown on eyes & nude lips..

  2. that's a nice colour.

Your comment about a normal person though - are there any figures about how many lipsticks an average woman has? I know I'm not average (I'm near 50 at present) but do most women really only have two or three?

  3. Hi Sizbelle - thanks :) I tend to gravitate towards the same colours too, but I do like a bit of colour on the lips on me. I think a peachy or rosy cheek with nude lips also looks lovely on warmer/more golden colouring than mine.

Hi GreatSheElephant - I don't know....I just know that most of my female friends who aren't so into cosmetics seem to only have a handful and tend to buy new lipsticks when they use one up (an alien concept for me). Those magazine articles where they go through someone's make-up bag and bin stuff - I'd need a trunk!

  4. I think it's really interesting to think about how much makeup an 'average woman' has.

I'd say I'm more interested in makeup than any of my friends (although I wear it less often) and have about ten lipsticks on the go at any one time, with about five blushers, five lipglosses and a never changing collection of 20 or so single eyeshadows in trusty colours (I don't like palettes and have no confidence in applying eyeshadow). I have one mascara (always Chanel sculpte cils) and at present a fast growing collection of 10 assorted base products as I'm hoping for a miracle!

As I keep my collection in a shoulder bag size case with trays and I bin stuff I've lost interest in when I add new obsessions my stash stays pretty much this size.

I remember that in the 1970's my sister (then in her twenties) had one roll on lipgloss (peppermint flavour), one black eye pencil, one mascara and a bottle of Fracas. Times certainly were different but on questioning my friends now the pencil case sized make up collection consisting of a handful of mascaras and a few Lancome Juicy Tubes with a badly chosen bottle of foundation for special occasions seems about the norm...and they look at me as if I'm mad when I get all enthusiastic about a new product!

  5. Oh dear! what I meant about the foundation was that they weren't happy with the foundation. It's so difficult to get a good one!

  6. That looks so easy to wear- very pretty color. As for your *normal* person comment- I have to think very hard the last time I actually used up a lippie. ;O)
