Ormonde Jayne Ta'if review

Ormonde Jayne Ta'if is my favourite 'bad girl' fragrance. I describe it this way; if Jo Malone Red Roses is the Jennifer Aniston of rose fragrances, Ormonde Jayne Ta'if is the Angelina Jolie; madder than a sackful of badgers, tricky to handle, but a heck of a lot of fun.

The top notes are pink pepper, dates and saffron, the heart is of rose, freesia, orange flower and jasmine, and the base is of broom and amber. Ta'if is a earthy rose scent; the broom, amber and saffron in the blend make an accord that gives me an olfactory impression of  the warm earth from the Arabian town of Ta'if where the roses are grown. The rose in the scent is voluptuous and full blown, supported by the warmth and spice of the rest of the blend. This is definitely a warm fragrance, rather than a cooler rose scent.

Ta'if is a heady, flirty fragrance; this is the fragrance to wear if you intend to dance until dawn and then fall into bed with your make-up still on. Of course, I'm much too sensible to do that anymore ;), but when Mr London and I went away together for our 10th wedding anniversary last February, Ta'if was the fragrance I packed. This fragrance is absolutely in love with life. If you are looking for a feminine rose scent that is  definitely grown-up rather than girly, Ta'if is well worth a sniff, and it's one of Miss London's favourites on me too, I think because it does smell very feminine.

Summary: a warm, spicy, grown-up rose scent. Not for those who like to fade into the background! Ormonde Jayne fragrances are available in the Royal Arcade boutique, and from www.OrmondeJayne.com.

  1. Great description. I would never have thought of this as the 'bad girl' as you describe it - but sums it up perfectly.

Out of interest have you tried Tom Ford's Black Orchid? Ta'if reminds me of it, although I've only tried it once and it was a while ago. Would be interested to hear what you think about Black Orchid.

  2. I love the fact that you use the phrase 'madder than a sackful of badgers' to help descibe this scent! lol I'll definately be having a sniff of this one!

  3. I popped into the Royal Arcade when I was in London two weeks ago, and I bought Ta'if after trying on 4 different scents with Linda in the store. Not only is it an amazing fragrance, but Linda was so helpful and cordial. I love the dry down of Ta'if, and I've taken to spritzing it on my scarves to scent them as well.

  4. Hi Signature Scent - I know what you mean about Black Orchid being a similar type of scent. I found Black Orchid too sandalwoody for me though; too much sandalwood gives me a headache. Ta'if also reminds me a bit of the original Agent Provocateur fragrance, but without the skankiness of the AP.

Hi Ms Wedgie - thanks :) It's well worth a sniff.

Hello Erin - Linda is absolutely lovely; I met her in the same way a couple of years ago. Ta'if is a beautiful scent; I like the trace it leaves on jumpers and scarves too. Isn't it nice to find a fragrance you love?

  5. Wow, what a write up. I definitely want to try this one.

I keep meaning to visit the Royal Arcade shop but I only seem to get to London for work these days and never have the time to go shopping. Poor deprived me :)

  6. Oh, I love Ta'if, too! I think the not-to-aweet date note is wonderful and how it's not a typical soapy rose scent.
What I also love about Ormonde Jayne
    is their amazing customer service.
I wanted to visit the Ormonde Jayne store last year when I was in London, but somehow Johnny Depp got in the way :)
