Even more excited about Ellis Faas

Last night at a Handpicked Media/Liberty event I was lucky enough to meet and talk to Ellis Faas. I'd like to report that I was extremely cool, but that would be a lie (and I am sure Mizzworthy and Vexinthecity would both call me on it.) I don't think I just stuttered, "I really love you," at her, but it's very possible, and I'm told that I vaulted over Ms Faas' legs in order to get to the display of her products and start swatching them.

I wrote about and pictured the lip products here back at the end of August, and I like those very much. The new eyeshadows are gorgeous; these really do wear like iron, as they set after half a minute and will not budge without a cleanser. (I still had swatches on my hand when I arrived home.) Ellis designed all the colours to mimic those that would occur naturally in the human body, but don't imagine that means that they're all flesh/beige/brown. There are lipcolours that mimic the colour of blood, and eyeshadows that mimic the natural colour of a bruise. The colours are all broken, non-primary and mostly warmer shades, although there are some cooler tones in the eye shades.

I've already bought some of the lip products and I'll be buying a couple of other items from the website because I can't wait for the Liberty launch. The creamy eyes give more structural shadowing, and the milky eyes have more of a sheen/translucency to them, and some brighter, more colourful shades than the creamy eyes. I really like the idea of layering the sheerer shade over the more opaque formula. My current wishlist includes blush S302 (peachy pink), creamy eyes E105 (a neutral brown), E106 (mushroom with a hint of mauve) and milky eyes E204 and 205 (I didn't write a colour description down next to these, so I won't describe until I see them again in person, either through purchasing online or when the counter opens and I can have another look.) In the concealer I am between S201 and S202, and would probably go for S202.

The range launches in Liberty in February 2010, and the prices in Liberty will be:

lips £21
eyeshadows £22
mascara £19
eyeliner £20
foundation £34
concealer £21
blush £20
powder £19

holder £21

The range is available now online at ellisfaas.com (prices on the website are in Euros.)

Please note: for the sake of absolute transparency, there were no Ellis Faas products in the event swag bag (which was very nice; thank you Liberty.) This event was about having a chance to look at the products and talk to the creator, and also to have a look at other new products and ranges that Liberty are launching.

  1. Hahaha great round up post. I woke up with the remains of the swatches on my hand this morning! They looked like a bruise. I can't believe the staying power!

Roll on Feb 2010! And yes, your reaction to Ellis Faas was the highlight of the evening for me LMAO! I will NEVER let you leave your adoration down! LOL xx

  2. Wow that's expensive! I'm not sure I could bring myself to spend £22 on one eyeshadow.

  3. Hi Vex - I had to take mine off my hand with my Saaf cleanser - water alone didn't budge them. Thanks for not teasing me *too* badly about my fangirl reaction ;)

Hello Gemma. Thank you for your comment.

  4. I couldn't make the event, so your account almost makes up for that! Thanks for all the detail. The concept sounds really interesting. I did get to meet her a few years ago, she launched the make-up range for Biotherm; she has a very quirky approach doesn't she.

  5. Hi Beauty Edit - what a shame you couldn't come! Ellis Faas is really interesting, and the line concept is fascinating. The formulas and colours are excellent, I like that there is quite a bit of colour in there, but it's wearable.

  6. Oh, it was great that you could meet Ellis Faas herself!

Ha ha, the eyeshadows wouldn't budge, would they? I spent the night with the eyeshadow swatch on my arm when I did my review and the next morning, it was still there - intact and didn't rub off on my clothing! Amazing!

I'd love to read how you get on with the products later. :)

  7. I've been hearing good things about Ellis Faas, but the website never seems to grab me. I think when I see them in the flesh I'll probably be tempted by the sound of it.

  9. Thats really great you got to meet Ellis Faas, not often we get to meet the person behind the products ! I can't decide whether to order now or be good and wait to the Liberty launch !

  10. Lucky you, you got a chance to meet the great Faas in person! She is gorgeous, isn't she? I have my eyes on E106 and E204 too, and something from the milky lips line (L207?). Did you swatch blush S301? Is it very light? xx

  11. So jealous! Would have loved to see your reaction. LOL.
I am dying to get my hands on this line -- looked on the site but not sure if it ships my way and how much it would cost. I will live vicariously through you in the meantime.

  12. @Witoxicity - they wear like iron, I was amazed. It was fantastic to meet her; she represents the line really well - she's glamorous without being in any way overdone.

@DINKY - it's one of those that doesn't leap off the screen but works beautifully in real life. The bullets definitely do have the wow factor! :)

    @Cocomia - thank you :)

@Replica - it is quite a saving if you can wait for the launch - the pound is running pretty close to one euro now.

@Anna - She's beautiful! S301 is light; it's kind of Sue Devitt Koh Samui, Lancome Crushed Hazelnut colour, more of a beige sheen/shadow than a blush that adds colour.

Hey Michelle! I was a bit pathetic, I'm sorry to say :D It's coming to the US in the new year, so here's hoping it makes it to you soon. x

Thank you all very much for reading.

  13. You lucky girl. Can I come and just rub your hand for luck!! I can't wait til you get some since I trust your taste!

  14. Oh Marcia, I need to shop for you when it comes out over here; it's much cheaper than the Euro/Australian prices. I'm not sure any of the lipsticks are cool enough for you - the L205 I already have or L207 are probably the most Marcia colours. I'll have a good look when the counter opens.

  15. hehe - you were just soooo cool! Seriously though, when I played, I was super impressed with the range, which put your fan girl reaction totally in perspective - I wish I had the savvy to discover brands like this in the way you do xxx

  16. Yes, I loved it too...fell madly for a bruised blue/green shade but forgot the number straight away! And even tried a blood red lipstick but couldn't conjour up the courage to wear it out!

  17. Hello Mizzworthy - totally cool, I thought ;) It was great to have a chat and a swatch with you. x

Hi BBB - that's the problem with numbers, isn't it? Impossible to remember which one it was, whereas you'd have remembered if it had been named 'Bruise.' I love that red, but I'm comfy in red lipsticks.
