Do you mix or do you match?

Cosmetics, that is.

I have a slightly odd cosmetic tic in that I am always happier if all the colour cosmetics I am wearing on any given day are from the same brand. I can do different mascara, concealer and powder, but I much prefer it if my blush, eyeshadow and lipstick are from the same line. I know, I'm a sales assistant's dream!

Do you always mix up brands, or are you ever so slightly obsessive-compulsive over your cosmetics as I am?

I was thinking of writing some posts on what combinations I like to wear together for the harder to get hold of lines like Suqqu and Rouge Bunny Rouge - would this type of post be interesting or helpful?

  1. I would love to see some posts like this - I like to match my blusher and eyemakeup ranges. I have no idea why though....

  4. I like to wear as much of the same brand if possible too, thought that was just me !! If I get a load of new stuff I have to wear it all at the same time rather than mixing it with the old if possible, but I think that habit is just me :)
Posts of colour combinations are always helpful I think, can give you new ideas.

  5. Hi Mizzworthy - isn't it an odd thing? I just feel happier that way, although I *can* mix if I have to.

Hi Musing on Beauty and Jamilla - I envy you blithe mixers! I love how you mix high and low end Jamilla, and it always looks gorgeous how you put it together.

Hello Replica - I think we might have been separated at birth, you know :D

Thanks for the feedback too ladies; I think I will do some combo posts.

  6. I'm match type, but mix sometimes, the problem is if I try something from brand I like it, will buy louds of things from them. Sometimes not everything is good.
I would love see the mix posts :)

  7. I do both. I don't always have everything in a line to do a full face so that's why I sometimes have to mix it up.

I do think that mixing it up is more fun though - it's just more challenging that way.

  9. I mix it up ... but. I do like a lot of the same ranges stuff, even though I don't wear it all at the same time, I don't know if that makes sense? If I like a brand, I like to try all their products, but I think it feels a bit matchy-matchy to wear them all together.

Currently I'm mixing Rimmel and Bobbi Brown and Illamasqua, with a hint of Maybelline. And some Clarins. Like you do ;)

  12. I wear all from the same line apart from mascara, which is different (shu uemura) and I have three different types of their mascara, so in a *way* I mix and match! I found that as I got older I'm less adventurous and also I edited down my make up bag so that I could travel with it more easily.

That said, I mix and match skincare! I used to be all from the same line but again, due to age and learning what works for each specific area, I now have certain things from diff lines.

Please post your combos; they are def inspirational/interesting and I just love how you blend. I have studied some of the pics. Maybe a post on which brushes you use to achieve some of these looks, too? Blending is where I always go wrong..!

  13. Hi Gabriela - I definitely do this too!

@ Sarita, Music, Get_Lippie, Lipstickrules and Old Cow - I do love seeing different brands used together, but I feel like I'm walking under a ladder when I do it myself :D

Hi Amina - oh, that's an interesting one too. I think I'm okay with doing that, or at least, I was until you mentioned it ;)

Hi Jo - I'm okay with mixing skincare too (I wonder why that feels different? I guess because I really have learnt that one line can't fit all my needs.) I'll do some combo posts, and I'll definitely do a favourite brushes post. Thank you for kind comment. :)
