By Terry Ombre Blackstar 01 - Black Pearl

So, I was in SpaceNK at lunchtime, shopping for a friend (honest!) and happened to have another play with the By Terry Ombre Blackstar. It was as nice as I remembered it, and so I bought it. Applied to a bare lid, this gives a soft, smoky, sparkly eye. The finish is lovely, very pretty and sparkly, but not glitter-ish and still daytime appropriate. This was easy to apply too; I dabbed it on in a thickish line near my lashes, and then just blended up onto the lid with my fingertip. It applies much more easily than MAC shadesticks (no tugging here) but once it sets (you have about a minute to blend before this happens) it really stays put. I like that you can build up a decent colour/coverage with these too; the Bobbi Brown metallic cream eyeshadows are very pretty, but very sheer.

The thing that tipped me over the edge into buying the Ombre Blackstar today was swatching the purple from NARS Eurydice over it on my hand. I could see blue shimmer, without killing the purple undertone (I tried it over my MAC greasepaint on Tuesday night, and although the blue shimmer showed up beautifully, I lost all the purple base tones.) Here's a picture applied over the By Terry to show you; Look! Blue shimmer on the lid.

It is expensive at £26, but there is a 20% off code going on at SpaceNK from now until Saturday. I am very tempted to also pick up the Rock shade, and Bronze is lovely for those who like a warmer bronzey eye.

  3. Hi Jamilla - there are some beautiful colours in the range. I've never tried the mascara, but I do already love the pencil liner; I should give that mascara a go.

Hi OC - thanks :) A lot of By Terry is (in my opinion) overpriced, but there are some gems in the line. I still winced a bit at handing over the cash when the NARS chubby eye pencils are a tenner cheaper, but I prefer the multi-colour sparkle in the ByT one.

  4. Looks gorgeous!
I don't have anything By Terry so far. I feel a bit intimidated by the brand, I guess, I don't know the products very well and don't know if they're really worth their price. I'm tempted to try some, though.

  5. Hi Musing on Beauty - I know what you mean. It's one of those brands that you might pick something up and then have a coughing fit when you see it costs £50. There *are* some very good products in the line that are expensive, but not obscene. I really feel like a lot of it isn't sufficiently special to charge what it does though.

  7. Love it!!
We have similar lunchtime habits it seems. Less about lunch and more about perusing the beauty counters ;-)

  8. That IS GORGEOUS! Another item added to my wishlist, as well as a Butterfly Ball Lipstick...too bad I can't add these to my Christmas list seeing as I'll have to buy them for myself! You're a total enabler, Grace London! xx

  9. (I meant "buy them myself", of course I'd be buying them "for" myself, that goes without saying, hehe! xx)

  10. Hi Cocamia - it's perfect for the holidays.

Hey Michelle - yes, and working in central London two days a week is dangerous!

Hi Anna - I tried to resist these, really I did. If you are thinking of shopping online/by mail order over before Sunday, be sure to use the 20% off code. x

  11. Gorgeous look Grace! Haven't visited by Terry for quite some time now. I own one of the Blackstar eye iner pencils (in a bronzy colour) and love it.
BTW you did well not to purchase the Nars chubby pencil from the holiday collection. I got Aigle Noir and, although the colour is stunning, the fact that you MUST set it with powder shadow (otherwise it will just melt off after an hour, even on perfectly primed lids) makes you lose the depth and multidimentionality of the colour, as well as the lovely shimmer.
You made the right choice methinks...

  14. That is really pretty, shame they don't have them up on the website yet, I showed my usual restraint and placed my order today, got that Oribe shampoo/conditioner (black bottles) amongst other things :)

  15. HI Selina - it's lovely. I think By Terry is at Mecca in Australia, but of course it's really hugely uber expensive there.

Hi Replica - it's a real shame the website takes so long to update. Can't wait to read about everything you got and what you think of them :)
