Rock & Republic sale swag and swatches

Rock & Republic cosmetics were on sale at Hautelook, and so my US pal kindly picked up a few bits for me that I wanted. The top picture is without flash, bottom is with flash. These are:

eyeshadow in Diffused - medium cool beige/brown with shimmer.
blush in Bedroom - warm guava pink matte. Yes, this is huge - it's 9g of product.
lipgloss in Sexy Beast, a berry rose with subtle shimmer.

Below is a swatch of Sexy Beast, next to a swatch of R&R Drama Queen gloss. You can see that Sexy Beast is pigmented, much more so than Drama Queen.

Also below is a picture of Diffused (right) compared to R&R Spy (left), which is a paler beige.

Rock & Republic cosmetics are considerably marked down on Neiman Marcus online now - an eyeshadow is $17 rather than $28. It does look as though the cosmetics line is closing, which is a shame because it has some fabulous items. I agree with New York City Pretty's take on the fortunes of this line; I too think it was a mistake to lead the marketing of this line with the $225 Swarovski bronzer, especially in uncertain economic times.

  1. Hi Grace! I've always been intrigued by R&R, but never managed to get my paws on their products. I can't say I'm that surprised, though. After all, if even a well-established brand like Prescriptives is shutting down business, it's no surprise that less distributed brands, however funky and glam, are experiencing big troubles. Hell, in Italy even major fashion-houses are going to pieces, see Roberto Cavalli...and Dolce&Gabbana are really struggling to keep their heads above water. Anyway, I wish I had all these great friends in the US sending me hard-to-find stuff! x

  2. Forgot to ask...when you suggested the Chanel concealer to me, did you mean the Lumiere one? I actually bought it a few weeks ago and will review it soon! Anyways, love you R&R loot, all of it! x

  3. Hi Anna - it's a difficult time for smaller brands. I think R&R overspent on the packaging, to be honest. There's just too much going on, and each compact comes in a hatbox style solid cardboard box.

And yes on the Chanel - I think so, if it's the new one specifically for eyes. Will be interested to read how you get on with it. x

  4. Rock & Republic was let down horribly by it's dreadful PR in the UK. Inexplicably it was given to a fashion PR company with little experience in the beauty market and seemingly little desire to promote it! I went to the launch and it seemed so full of promise, but the launch wasn't followed up properly and it just faded into the ether. Make up doesn't PR itself you know, guys....

  5. Hi BBB - the PR decisions on this line were awful. I think I only ever saw it in one magazine, and I don't think Harrods is the best store to launch a new beauty brand any more either - the beauty hall(s) are disjointed and lack coherence. Shame, because the cosmetics themselves are very good.
