I see a red door....* MAC Style Black collection
I think I'm PMSing, because when I popped into MAC at lunchtime today, black lipstick suddenly seemed like a completely fabulous idea. So much so, that I bought Midnight Media Mattene (pictured wearing above) and Blackware glimmerglass, as well as the black greasepaint (this stuff is really pigmented, and has a subtle purple pearl to it) and Young Punk Mineralize eyeshadow. I am not usually a MAC LE type of person; the last collection I really liked (and bought a lot from) was Danse from at least a couple of years ago.
Is it a wearable, everyday, office appropriate look? Absolutely not; with my pale skin, dark eyes and hair I can honestly say I look cadavarous. I plan to wear the lipstick to IKEA on Saturday, where I think it will accurately reflect my state of mood.
Mr London is not a fan at all; he was making lots of jokes about whether he would be able to take a picture of me wearing the lipstick (because I look vampiric) and was hesitant about kissing me (to quote him: "I thought it would taste funny. Like poison or something.")
I'm still glad I bought it; sometimes I like the idea of makeup to shock or surprise. I'll report back if I still feel the same way when I am less hormonal, but this collection is already moving very quickly indeed. The eye products in the collection give more traditional smoky/shimmery eye look.
...*and I want to paint it black. From 'Paint it Black' by the Rolling Stones (back when Mick was actually really quite hot, believe it or not, you young things.)

I've seen some really cool FOTDs with dark lips lately. I can't wait to play about with my SB stuff. Buy Amorous Dazzlecreme to go over Midnight Media and you will DIE!! (oops been watching too much Rachel Zoe!) It looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteI looked at this collection today as well, only came away with the baby goth nail polish and thermal mask. I know what you mean about the black and dark berry lipsticks though, I did think to myself "perhaps I could pull this off,if dabbed on softly" then realised that if I have problems with Red lipstick then black is probably a step too far :)
ReplyDeleteI got three of those matte RBR eyeshadows btw..really like them.
Hi Vex. Amorous, right, will definitely have a look for that one. I'm actually really quite enjoying how very scared Mr L is of the lips. x
ReplyDeleteHi Replica - I'm determined to wear it to IKEA ;) I'll look forward to seeing your pictures and reading your thoughts on the new RBR. x
Yay Grace! I surprised myself as well with my Style Black haulage. You should get Blood Red lipstick (Dsquared ) and add Bling Black glimmerglass. It is gorgeous gorgeous. I am going to check out VexintheCity's recco regarding Amorous (which I bought too) and Midnight Media.
ReplyDeleteLol - MAC does have that effect - I'm loving Young Punk and the grease stick... I didn't even look at the lippies. I got the two from DSquared but Vex is right... there's some HOT looks with black lippie... mix it up in the office... go on, go on, go on! x
ReplyDeleteHey Michelle - yes, I bought Blood Red too today, and that was squarely because of your picture. Us mamas can still be surprising sometimes :)
ReplyDeleteHi LionLovingTiger - I can usually resist MAC, believe it or not, but this collection was singing to me like a siren. I love the eye look on your blog, by the way. Thanks for your comment. x
You too?? I haul when I am PMSing too. So I popped into Boots and hauled CHANEL.....:( I couldn't help myself! I was like a woman possessed!
ReplyDeleteI MUST SEE A PIC OF YOU WEARING YOUR MOOD MATCHING MU TO IKEA!!!!!!
Hi Old Cow - what Chanel did you get? I've got my eye on the dark nail polishes. PMS = no self-control for me.
ReplyDeleteI promise a sulky-faced, black-lipped picture of me outside IKEA.
I'm a hormonal breast-feeding wreck surviving on minimal sleep so I also feel the urge to shop! I can't understand why these collections aren't online yet... I don't have a MAC counter near me.
ReplyDeleteAlso... the Chanel polishes are lovely. I bought Vendetta and Diabolic and I love them. Vampy nails are more do-able for me than black lipstick!
xxx
HI loveaudrey - oh heavens, I still remember those days. Some days I was so tired I wouldn't drive because I didn't feel safe to do so! Breast-feeding is completely knackering.
ReplyDeleteIt's annoying that these aren't up on the MAC website yet - they are usually quite quick off the mark.
Thanks for the Chanel feedback - I like the look of both of those, and I think I'm going to go for Diabolic. I agree that dark nails are a lot more wearable! x
Someone told me that black lipstick are good if worn under red lipstick. I've never tried it though as generally I'm not a lippy person...
ReplyDeleteHi Music - black lipsticks are good for deepening and cooling other colours - I've had Linda Mason's black lipgloss and used it for this purpose for a couple of years now.
