No, no, no Sienna, BYBO!*

There's an article in September's Instyle on Sienna Miller's beauty secrets. I don't know if she has a publicist, or if she's just really rude to journalists, but it does not reflect well on her.

It's one of those, "oh, I never bother with beauty products, don't even take a brush on holiday, I just take toothpaste, deodorant and perfume" articles. (She at least does have the sense to mention the fragrance she's currently promoting.) What's infuriating about this, is this is a woman's magazine, and this type of "Don't you wish your girlfriend was low maintenance like me?" statement is designed purely to appeal to men.

The statement I object most to though, is "I'm not someone who takes hair masks and things, but if a friend had one, I'd be, 'Ooh, can I borrow some?'" No, not with me you couldn't. Pack your own bloody Philip B.

As well as being selfish (I am not your packhorse) this type of 'can't be bothered to get my own, but I'll borrow yours' attitude could really get a girl into trouble if you applied it to other areas of life. Say, relationships....oh.

*bring your bloody own

  4. Hi Tali

I agree - I've had heavily highlighted hair, and it needs babying!

  5. Ohhh those people make me so mad.

"I never eat dessert.." AKA "I never order dessert as it makes me feel more virtuous but I'm going to ask for an extra spoon and help you with yours"

"I don't smoke" AKA "I'm too tight to buy them but more than happy to help myself to yours when I've had a drink"

"What, this old thing?" AKA "I'm so glad you mentioned it as it's brand new and cost me a fortune"

"I never diet" AKA "I exist on meals of maple syrup and cayenne pepper, or whatever the latest Hollywood fad is".

I think I've made my point.

  6. Hi Helen

So, you know her then? :D

I have been known to stab someone with a fork for trying to steal the chips from my plate when they'd ordered a salad. I made it look like an accident though.

  7. LMAO - This post is spot on - Sienna Miller is a vacuous waste of space... I agree - bring your bloody own - I don't mind my sister borrowing the odd bit of lippie, but don't freeload off me biatch!

  8. Hi Mizzworthy

Sisters, yes. Siennas, no :D She doesn't endear herself to the sisterhood much.

  9. Oh and which skinny celebrity who professes to eat like any other normal person (I'll give you a clue, it rhymes with Keira Knightley) allegedly ate nothing but plates of frozen peas whilst filming something one summer? Tsk.

  10. If I did that (the pea thing) my mother would just hope I was pregnant with another grandchild for her, and having weird cravings...but that's a whole other rumour ;)

That couldn't be good for the digestive system.

  11. Hi i've just been reading through old posts on your blog and learning about some interesting niche (to me anyway) brands.
I had to comment on this post because it's so bloody true! I can't stand that faux low maintenance image some celebrities like to portray. Yes many women in the public eye are naturally beautiful but I'm sure it takes a fair bit of work. Maybe this denial is done in an attempt to seem "down to earth" or as more of an everywoman but we can see through it!
    Great blog.

  12. Hi Shoobe - thank you for the kind comment, and I am glad you are enjoying my blog. I'm always happy to revisit my ire at this one, this type of behaviour is too annoying for words! :)

  13. I really love this post.

I am particularly impressed with your insight into those comments being meant for men, not women. I always knew BS like this irritated me, now I know why!
